The Opera House I am referring to was in the Martwick community. I have a website that tells more about the activity or Robert Southard in Western Kentucky. I also have a drawing of Martwick. If anyone wants me to forward either of them, please write me at delois000000@aol.com and I will send them to you. Was that the Gish Opera House? If so it was on page 2.
Martwick Opera House Is it possible that the Martwick Opera House was the same as the Gish Opera House? I don't live in the area but I am curious if they are one and the same. _______________________________________________ No banners. No pop-ups. No kidding. Thanks for the info...I don't think the Gish Opera House is the same one I am looking for. The one I am interested in was in Martwick Kentucky. I bought the CD set Mary Latham referred to, but have not found it after a "quick" scan of the many thousand photos. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steven E. There is a "Gish Opera House" at the bottom of page two. Could that be it? Someone told me, years ago, that the old State Theater, that burned down in 1964, give or take a year or two, had once been an opera house. I do remember that it had an orchestra pit just below the front of the stage, and a brass railing to keep people from falling down into it. I hope this has been of some help to you..... I bought the CD`s that the Muhlenberg Library was selling. The CD`s contained over 10,000 photos of Muhlenberg County.I checked all the pre 1960 photos and could not find a " Martwick Opera House "I found several photos of " Martwick mine " and the " Martwick minecompany store " but no opera house. If one lived near the Muhlenberg county library they might check there.I live in extreme northeast California so I have my brother Bill [ who lives in Central City ] do my digging. Thanks, Everly cousins, for the information. My father, John Robert Morris, said he remembered the Everly brothers when they were children, waiting for their father to get off work at the Martwick mine. Another bit of interest...I was born in the Martwick Opera House in 1938. I am searching for a photograph of the Opera House if anyone can help! Dukes in Gil Stewart's database, born in 1855 in Muhl Co. He is listed with 2 children, James W. and Nancy L. Dukes, but no Frank. James S. is listed as a son of William F. Dukes b.1832, a veteran. William F. is listed as son of Jonathan. Jonathan had 11 children and seemed to move around a lot between Muhl Co and TN, with several children born in each place. Jonathan was a son of Benjamin, who is my ancestor, so, yes this would be my family.
