Hi, Muhlenberg County friends. I thought you might be interested in the following new resource: Rochester NY Public Library -- City directories online from 1827-1899 http://www.libraryweb.org/rochcitydir/citydirectories.html These are the complete directories. Years 1900 - 1930 are being posted soon. Maps of the city are also available online at Rochester Images, and they are useful for census work. Enjoy! Fran

I found this and thought that it might be of interest or some use to someone on the list. It was found on a site link that was posted here recently; http://205.247.101.31:2005/cdm4/search.php No relationship to me, but an Irish family for certain. James Biglan, Sr., of Doylestown, PA received a dispatch yesterday afternoon announcing the death of his brother, Michael Biglan, at his home in Bristol. The cause of death was not stated. His age was about 65 years. He is survived by his wife, five children - two sons and three daughters - his brother James, of Doylestown, and his sister Ellen, residing in Iowa. Mr Biglan came to America from Ireland in 1850 and immediately settled in Doylestown. He was employed for many years by the railroad company, working in the freight yard. Later he followed mason-tending for a living and helped to build a great many houses in Doylestown. He removed with his family to Ohio after living here some time but soon tired of the West and returned to the town of his adoption. About nine years ago he removed with his family to Bristol and obtained employment in Steel's Mill, and was an employee of that establishment at the time of his death. On February 22, 1865, he enlisted in the Army for one year, or until the end of the war. He joined Company I under Captain Enos R. Artman, 213th Regiment, Penna. Volunteers, recruited at Frankford by Col. John A. Gorgas. He served in the Army for ten months and was honorably discharged with his regiment at Washington. The only Doylestown survivor of his company is David O. Connard. His funeral will be held Monday Morning. Interment in the Catholic Cemetery at Bristol. Hi again. For those whose Muhlenberg ancestors had Pennsylvania ancestors, this might be helpful. Fran SEARCH PENNSYLVANIA OBITUARIES ONLINE Pennsylvania's state library has posted microfilmed images of scrapbooks containing newspaper obituaries published between Oct. 16, 1891, and March 3, 1904. Search for your ancestor's obituary at http://205.247.101.31:2005/cdm4/search.php (Note the search page doesn't give you much clue where you are). At the bottom of the page, unclick everything except State Library of Pennsylvania-- Genealogy. Type your keywords (such as a name or place) in the All of the Words field and click Search. If you're not sure whether Great-grandma would be listed under her maiden or married name, enter both surnames in the Any of the Words field and type her first name in the All of the Words field. The Proximity tab lets you type two search terms and specify the number of words apart they can occur, letting you net obituaries containing variations such as john smith; john charles smith; and smith, john c. Still can't find the deceased? Try searching for people who might be listed as survivors. Results show thumbnails of each matching obituary, its page number in the original scrapbook and surnames of everyone whose obituaries appear on that page. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge the page; use the icons at the top to zoom in and navigate around the article.

Researching GRIFFITH;FEREDAY;ROSE;ARMSTRONG;WHITEHOUSE My lines come from Lewis L Griffith and Julia Ann Armstrong. Their daughter Martha Elouise married William H. Fereday in 1874 Their son William Lewis was my maternal grandfather. I have traced the Griffith family to York Co PA- through James Griffith I have traced the Fereday family to Tipton England ( part of the Black Country) A connection to the Whitehouse family comes via the Ferday side as Wm Fereday's grandmother was Charlotte Whitehouse. There are Whitehouses in MD living near Roses and Armstrongs who immigrate to Muhlenberg and Todd Co. Griffiths also live in MD before moving to PA. The Black Country is a large mining /iron area in ENgland. I suggest interested parties check the Rootsweb site as you may find connections. Wanda Lee
