    2. Lou
    3. I know what you mean about data being put on cd's and offered for sale. I learned something from experience about a couple of people I think were doing just that....Tell your listers...be leery about giving out a lot of info first time round... and if the other person seems more interested in what YOU have to tell them, instead of helping you, be more leery. This has happened on one of the famly names I am trying to research...and the control of the "data" makes it very hard to find out anything from anyone because all of the ones who "know" anything are on that data list and they don't seem to want to help the lowly "researcher" like me. Altho they have a surname mail list, it's useless to ask for any help on it... I never see any replies much to anyone who does list for help....which leads me to believe that it is all controlled by the list owner, or who ever...administrator? Just my experience and observation. To me, it ruins the fun of genealogy and me with only a webtv and not a computer, cd's are of no value to me. Take care and GOD BLESS, Lou

    3. Jessica, There is a will on the Muhlenberg Co. Archives, for Nancy or Ann Boggess, dated April 27th, 1819, that says, Thomas Bell's wife, Hannah Bell, formerly Hannah Boggess is her grandaughter. It also names her children. There might be something that would help you out, in the will. Also there are a lot of new wills, deeds, and other info there that someone might want to check out. 1. [KYMUHLEN] Sunday Afternoon Rocking
    2. From:   Jan, [email protected] (j) It Takes a Heap of Living (from the "Sunday Afternoon Rocking" series) Today my daughter and I pitched in to "be family".  As surely as the barn raisings of the past, so it is when family begins a project, our traditional framework says it is time to "pitch in".  A step-daughter and her husband have built a new home, and we are helping with wallpaper.  They are excited, this young couple, and rightfully so.  Their new home will be lovely.  It sparkles and shines in its crisp newness.  It seems poignant with expectation of good times and family affairs, celebrations and events a future together promises.  And because this couple is young, and standing in the threshold of life, they stand "looking in" and "ahead", happy with expectations, but without the framework of one who has lived.  And so I doubt they see what I see, what my husband sees when we look around us at the sparkling interior. Somehow our gaze ventures beyond that which is "there", that which is lovely indeed, and what we "see" simply can only be seen by eyes that have seen before.  I think Edgar Guest said it best when he penned the lines, "It takes a heap o' living to make a house a home." A house simply isn't a home until it is inhabited not just by people, but by memories.  There have to be some walls echoing laughter, some floors paced with worries, a window one has stared out of in pain.  There have to be some worn spots and some scratches and some scars.  There have to be some things less than perfect to make a place "perfectly a home".  If "it takes a heap of living to make a house a home", it is because it "takes a heap of living to make a life a life".  Somehow a house, once it has become a home, is the badge of honor that proves a life has been lived and still stands proudly bearing the scars of having lived it.  The very fact that the house still stands is proof of the firm foundations upon which it was built, and that in as symbolic a way as a physical one. I peer at a door frame and see tiny pencil marks matching a yet unborn child's growth.  I glance at a place a patio might be poured and imagine a child's handprints in the concrete, preserved forever that an older child or adult will gaze one day and say, "Those were mine".  I peek into at a proposed nursery and see tiny finger smudges on a wall, a crayon mark or two that a mother finds it difficult to paint over, both in reality and in emotion.  I imagine a gang of noisy young folks merrily clamoring in a basement room.  I see bright eyes dancing as they peer over a counter top at freshly made cookies, and I imagine squeals of delight out on the lawn as a child holds up a brightly colored Easter egg.  I think that one day this young couple will be where my husband and I are now, and a young lady will bring a young man through that wide front door one day to meet her folks…and their lives will change forever…again.   Perhaps my step-daughter will one day hear tradition calling, "It is time to pitch in", and she too will be there for her young adult children, delighting in their youth, their expectations on the thresh hold of life.  And I suspect…she will see in the newness of their life together the portent of all the things to come that she will by that time have known.  She will smile at their delight in life, she will enjoy knowing the pleasures they will find as adults carving a place for a family, and she will sadly know in her life all the pain they will face as they begin theirs.  She will come armed with a paint brush or a roll of wall paper, and the hands that she puts to work helping this youthful couple will be a bit roughened, but adept.  The heart that she uses for eyes will be a bit weary, perhaps a bit toughened, and yet in some curious way, a bit more tender.  She will glance at a door frame of a new home, and see tiny pencil marks matching a yet unborn child's growth… "It takes a heap o' living to make a house a home."  And isn't that a large part of what life is all about?  We bear the scars and the scratches and the worn spots, and our "house becomes a home".  We stand as proof that foundations made it possible to survive the storms of life and our house is even more beautiful than the day it was shining in its newness.  How wonderful. 2. Hello All. This is my line that I am researching. Actually, this is the furtherest back relative that I have definates on. I have a lot of the information on everyone down from Bryant, but I have hit the brickwall as far as finding his parents. I found Hannah Boggess-Middleton in the 1850 Federal Census living in Muhlenberg Co., KY (where my line settled), but she is listed with only son Briant S. and daughter Nicipa D. (which I think is actually supposed to be Narcissa?). So, I don't know if the father (I have been told his name is Robert, but don't really have anything to prove it except for LDS Marriage records that show a Robert Middleton marrying Hannah Boggess) died or if him and Hannah separated. Does anyone know anything about this line? Bryant C. Middleton Birth: May 1837, Illinois Death: ? Occ: Farmer Father: Robert (?) Middleton Mother: Hannah Boggess/Boggens (~1804-?) 1. Re: [KYMUHLEN] HURT
    2. Attention: Sherry Petersen I've check all my Muhlenberg County books and cannot find any reference to a Nathan Hurt. There were no Hurts in the 1840 and 1850 censuses (I understand your family moved before 1850). There were no Hurt wills, nor cemetery records for Hurts during the period of time you seek. There were very few later even. There were two Hurt grooms in the Marriage Records 1802-1904 06 Feb 1836 - Lewis Hurt m. Temperance Johnson 24 Oct 1850 Francis Asbury Hurt m. Irene Joines In an early Muhlenberg County deed I found: DB 1 & 2, p. 222. 07 Sep 1807 Deed where land was sold by Thomas Littlepage and Sally (Hurt) Littlepage. Land belonged to Moses Hurt, deceased. Moses' wife was Elizabeth Hurt, widow, and their children were all daughters: Jane, Nannie, Rhoda and Sallie who had married Thomas Littlepage. Still, understanding your family had left by 1850, I checked the 1850 censuses for Butler, Ohio and Logan counties just to see what Hurts I could find. No Hurts in Butler and Ohio counties. In Logan there was Sarah Hurt 65 and apparently her children: Thomas Minor 23; Rolinda 30; Charles P. 20; and Mary F. 10, perhaps a grandchild. Also in Logan was B.F. Hurt 27 and wife Lucy W. 33 with three small children. You (or perhaps someone would check for you) need to check the 1840 Kentucky Census Index to see if you can find Nathan listed. Also, there were a lot of Hunts in Muhlenberg County and we're all aware of how difficult old handwriting is to read. Hunt and Hurt could easily be mistaken for the other. Sorry I could not help. History of the Wickliffe, Waters, Harden and Logan Families in Kentucky, an Unfinished Family History by John D. Wickliffe (1838-1923). Privately printed by Henry R. Turner III, PO Box 184, Route 9-D, Garrison, NY 10524. Oct. 1992, states "Aaron Wickliffe died in Virginia leaving several children, one of these a son Col. Moses Wickliffe. He came to Kentucky and located lands in Muhlenberg County where he died in the early 1850's. . . ." Turner offered no proof of this. Kentucky Ancestor, Vol. 25, No. 1, 1989: Moses Wickliffe. b. 14 Aug 1779, Prince William County, VA s/o Aaron Wickliffe (s/o Susan Davis and Benjamin Wickliffe; d. He was a member of the Kentucky "Corn Stalk Militia," served in War of 1812, large Kentucky landowner and representative in Kentucky General Assembly 1816-1819. He died 30 Aug 1853, Muhlenberg County, and is buried in Crescent Cemetery. Lastly, Muhlenberg County KY Genealogical Society's publication The Heritage has an article on Moses Wickliffe (Vol. 13, No. 4, 1991, p. 41.) "Col. Moss Wickliffe was born in Prince William Co VA, 14 Aug 1779. He was a son of Revolutionary War soldier Aaron Wickliffe and his wife Mary Kincheloe Wickliffe . . . ." This is back as far as I have resources. The above data do NOT prove that Aaron Wickliffe was the father of Moses. But, apparently three people did find some indication or proof enough to put it into print. Plus the data you have in your Bible record. So it's a good place to work. Incidentally, have you thought of posting your Bible record online for the benefit of others. Even though you may have questions about it ?? We all need "beginning places." If you have more questions concerning Muhlenberg County people/events, I'll be glad to try to answer. Good luck in your search. Dorann A very important PS - The death of Moses Wickliffe is recorded in the very old Muhlenberg County Vital Statistics (from a filmstrip of the Kentucky Historical Society listing deaths by county) Death of Moses Wickliffe, age 75, b. Was this someone else's work? Figuring out families is fairly easy back to 1850 where you have censuses listing all members of families. Back of that, it's much harder. I'm willing to continue, but it would seem that your request for information is based on previous work? Bible records? Genealogy? It would help a lot to know. I have not worked on the Wickliffes but have seen the work of others. I've been interested in the Youngs for a long time and I know there are a lot of unanswered questions at that point! Hope what I've sent thus far will fill in gaps. I think someone else has been sending you some censuses and I did not mean to intrude on her work. Dorann

Slaton, Greenville, KY Buried Wickliffe Graveyard, 01 Mar 1918 Undertaker J.L. Thomas, Cleaton Bryan (without the "t") is listed in Cemetery Book III (by Marian G. Hammers) in Crescent Cemetery. Crescent Cemetery (used to be Crescent Mines in area) is located near Cleaton, KY. Mrs. Hammers stated, "There are many, many unmarked graves in this cemetery which now seems completely abandoned. It is grown up with brush and briers. Copied Nov. 12 1972." Wickliffe Cemetery is located 3/4 mile northeast of Crescent Cemetery. There are two or three identifiable graves listed in the book. Buried next to Bryant Cundiff is Jennie H. Cundiff - 01 May 1858 - 15 Dec 1902 Death Certificates are available in KY beginning in 1911 so there would not be a DC for Jennie. Jennie was b. in Rutherford County, TN and the name was Jennie Lamb Hutchison. This name and place of birth were listed in the DAR application of Kathryn Cundiff Carter. I cannot verify. In Muhlenerg County, 13 Sep 1882 Bryant Cundiff m. Jennie Hutchison.
