I am searching for information on Thomas Jefferson SKETO. Born in Dec 1825 in Ky. He was my Great Great Grandfather. I believe that his father's name was John Sketo but have been unable to prove this relationship. I believe that he was born in this county as there were lots of Sketo/Sketoe people here. Harry, also in sunny Phoenix.
Here's my Muhlenberg ancestors: Abraham WILCOX (b 1773) Moved to Muhlenberg after 1795 with wife Mary TURNER. They raised a family until about 1812. Abe went to war; Mary left with the kids. Abe & Mary were m in Mercer County KY 1795. Amos and Peter BOUCHER may be related to Mary TURNER according to the marriage documents. Does anyone know anything about the WILCOX, TURNER, or BOUCHERs? Bill in sunny Phoenix
My only name in Muhlenberg is BATSEL(L). Some allied families found in counties surrounding Muhlenberg are HENSON and LOVETT. Lee Ann Steinmetz
Reply-to: [email protected] (Linda L. Clements) To: [email protected] Response: Hi, Linda, My husband is related to the Greenwoods--very, very distantly . He descends from Peter Lamb. Peter Lamb had a daughter Dorothy (Lamb) Ezell who married Jacob Jago. Their daughter Viola Louisa Jagoe married William Henry Greenwood, brother to your Matilda Caroline. If you ever work on William Henry Greenwood's line that will give you his wife's family back to Peter. That is pretty far out "on a limb" for you to be too interested! Here is what I have in file on Willie Greenwood: William Henry "Willie" Greenwood b. 06 Jan 1837 in NC m. 17 Dec 1856 in Muhl. Co. Susan L. Dukes Willie d. 16 Aug 1915 (Death Certificate: place of burial not listed) Willie was the s/o Henry Greenwood and Levinia Carver both born in NC. (They were from Rockingham NC near Leaksville and moved to Muhl. Co. in 1852. This data from someone else.) Susan L. Dukes b. 17 Nov 1841 and d. 04 Oct 1900 buried Jagoe Cemetery Father Elijah Dukes b. TN and Edna Moore b. NC Children of Willie and Susan Greenwood (Please correct me if these are wrong or if I have missed one): 1. William Henry "Bud" Greenwood - 03 Jan 1854 - 11 Apr 1932 m. Viola Louisa Jagoe ca. 1879 (where?) ( 31 Jul 1865 - 16 Apr 1940) both bu. Jagoe Cemetery. 2. Matilda Caroline b. 1859 d. 1917; m. 29 Apr 1877 Alvis Tooley 3. Elijah B. b. Jagoe Cemetery m. 20 Mar 1898, Frances Ellie Bradford (10 Dec 1873 - 09 Dec 1950) 5. Jacob A. "Jake" Greenwood b. 24 Mar 1879 d. 28 Sep 1944 m. 29 Jan 1899 Mary Jane Cobb ( 15 Aug 1877 - 02 Dec 1964) both bu. Wilcox Cemetery 6. Pinkey J. Greenwood (1885-1957) m. 20 Apr 1904, Garnie Durrot Wilcox (1881 - 1968) bu. Wilcox Cemetery 7. Jesse J. Greenwood b. Mar 1875 m. ca. 1896 Alice F. _____ who was b. Dec 1876 8. James Thomas "Tom" Greenwood 1880-1930 m. Rosa Lee Dukes, 10 Jul 1910. (1879-1935) both bu. Jagoe Cemetery. Susan L. I am searching for any descendants of the Families of David and Robert ROBERTSON who migrated to first Logan Co. which later became Muhlenberg Co. KY in 1790's. Some descendants of these brothers continued to live in Muhlenberg Co. KY into the late 1800's or possibly later. Some of the children of these brothers moved on to Missouri, Arkansas, California, Texas & possibly other states too. David Robertson married Rachel Dennis and Robert Robertson married Mary Dennis, both d/o John Dennis, Jr. I would like to exchange family history with any descendants of these two brothers. I think Dorann has a great idea! How about we all post our all our lines to the list? There are several new people (like me) and maybe even if you are "done" with your lines (are you ever "done"?), you might tug a leaf on someone else's tree or make connections you had never made before. I'll start: EVITTS WALSH CAMFIELD/CAMPFIELD/CANFIELD EDWARDS SNODGRASS BRINKLEY PATTERSON LEE WILLIAMS (two different lines of them!) MURPHY HEAD LEWIS CAPPS GIBSON Not all of these are "direct" Muhlenberg Co. people, but they all had at least someone end up there! My "major" lines are at the top of the list, then get farther and farther... Mary K. Evitts Becker Corydon, IN
Andrew Gates b. 1807 Muhlenberg County m. Lucinda Wood, Sagamon County. See History of Sangamon County IL at: http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/u1/textindices/W/WOOD+2000+5 55885496+F Dorann O'Neal Lam
Sorry guys - I hate it when I send something to the list when I really only meant it to go to one person! Not that it was a secret, just boring, I'm sure! Mostest apologies, Mary K.
Dorann, My trip was awesome! I had never been to the Local History Annex and I got to spend about 3 ½ hours there on the Monday I was there (unfortunately, they were doing some tech upgrades and were closed on that Saturday). I also met with Debbie Lee Gilmore (who I met through GenForum), one of the "cousins" on my Lee side - she has a BUNCH of information, but then I had some that she didn't have, too! We had a good time sharing. I also had a lot of photos, both identified and unidentified, and she contacted an older lady (who, as it turns out, is more related to ME than to Debbie! - we are "double cousins" - two Williams sisters married two Lee brothers - and I am the gggrandaughter of one set and she is the granddaughter of the other set! That was so cool!) and that lady could pput names on several of the unidentified photos I had - on both sides! I spent about 6 hours at Debbie's on Sunday night, then she met me at the Annex on Monday and took me to the courthouse (which is also awesome - they just give you the run of the place!). I'm not sure I got a whole lot to share (I can't remember where you fit into the lines... sorry), but we did narrow Jesse & Catherine Lee down to "probably" Jackson Co. TN on his way to Muhlenberg from NC. We also found some courthouse stuff from Wm. G. Lee (will and another paper). Debbie filled in some stuff from her direct line (she is from one of Frank's brothers), but I don't have it with me. So, all in all, it was a very, very rewarding visit - not to mention I saw my grandmother more than I've seen her for quite a while (since she got more unable to communicate as well as she used to). I am hoping to get back at least one more time, hopefully two, this summer before Chris goes back to school. I have a trip to Evansville planned for July 20 (day trip) to work on my mom's side of the family - she and Chris are going to go with me. Chris is now interested in genealogy a bit (he's only 14, so I consider that a coup!) and is working on his dad's side of the family while both of his grandparents are still living (his grandpa on that side will be 80 in a couple of weeks - but they are both in good health and mind). Since his dad and I are divorced, I am trying not to be nosy, but I am helping him with the "what questions to ask next" type things. I'm sure his will end up being more organized than mine, since I know the pitfalls and mistakes *I* have made! :) Hope you are doing well - it is EXTREMELY hot here this week and pretty miserable for this time of year... supposed to cool off tomorrow. Sorry I rambled so much! Write when you can and keep in touch! Mary K. >>> [email protected] 06/15/01 10:58AM >>> Hi, Mary, How did your trip to Muhlenberg County "go"? I actually remembered you were going! It's been ages since I was there and I live about an hour away! Did you learn anything you can share?
