Dorann, Further to what you wrote below, the one who could tell who comtributed what to that history is Carol Brown. I contributed a lot to that book, and my contact was Carol Brown. I believe she took care of all the submissions. She can be reached at the Library Annex (Email address listed below) or personally at her private email address: [email protected] Jean Rhoads Camas in Long Island At 11:10 AM 06/21/2001 EDT, [email protected] wrote: >The new Muhlenberg County Ky History published in 1996 doesn't list who >contributed the Sketoe bio (p.251). What if any connect could there be for the Roberson and Jackson families found in the Jackson Cemetery at Leigh's Chapel General Baptist Church? I am searching for the father of John Jackson Roberson (born Aug. 19, 1852); mother Annie Eastwood. Unknown Roberson father could be either a James Jackson. , James F. or John Jackson Roberson, Sr. date of birth unknown, place of birth possibly Ky or Tenn., date of death ca. 1852 possibly buried in the White River area of Arkansas. Any help is greatly appreciated.
The new Muhlenberg County Ky History published in 1996 doesn't list who contributed the Sketoe bio (p.251). Write the library and most likely they will tell you. If not, perhaps they would pass your name on to the contributor. Dorann Email: [email protected] (Muhlenberg County Public Library and Genealogical & History Annex)
Dorann, thanks for all of the info. I visited the Muhl. Court house about 10 years back and have quite a bit of this info. I would be interested in who submitted the bio to the county history. I may have this info already. thanks a bunch Harry Phoenix > From: [email protected] > Reply-To: [email protected] > Date: Sun, 17 Jun 2001 17:56:17 EDT > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [KYMUHLEN] Great Idea! > Resent-From: [email protected] > Resent-Date: Sun, 17 Jun 2001 15:56:23 -0600 > > > Lastly, in the latest Muhlenberg County History someone has contributed a bio > on the above William Sketoe and Jane listing all their children. I love roll calls. It gives everybody a good chance to know what lines are being researched and just who's out there. Hope some of us get lucky! I'm interested in any of the following: William Crockett (age 81) was on the 1860 census with his daughter, Eliza Ann and her husband, James M. Pannell and their children. Their daughter m. 1) YONTZ; 2) CAPPS in Muhlenberg Co. Eliza gave deposition at her daughter's divorce in 1882 and stated she lived in Central City (apparently with another child and his/her family). A daughter, Martha m. Joseph ROSS; a son, Joseph m. ?; and another daughter was Ann E. Pannell m. ? I'd really like to have a death record/will, deeds, etc. for any of them, and particularly William Crockett or Eliza so I'd know where the heck they went! They disappeared from Knoxville, TN and I was fortunate enough to finally find them in Muhlenberg after about 35 years of searching between my father and myself. Obviously, William (a.k.a. "Slick Willie") is the big ole brick wall! Good luck to all! Donna Crockett Mowery
I have several names in Muhlenberg Co. I am doing research on. The Eades Family and relatives of theirs. Lovell, Snodgrass, Stuart, Morehead, Walden, Reeves, Lewis, Miller. Hi Jean, This is "cousin" Ernie from Tucson. I'm getting some work done on my computer so maybe I can give you the info. I promised months ago. No doubt in my mind we're related, but just way down the line. Ernie
Hi Bill, in sunny Phoenix. This is Ernie in sunny Tucson. I'm a native Muhlenberger doing a lot of research on my Heltsleys/Helsleys from there. It was 106 today in Tucson.

I spent the week end in Boston and it was in the 90's there too. That would make it hotter than Tucson because of the humidity. <smile> I was sightseeing in that heat. Can you imagine? Such craziness!! I think we did figure it all out (the relationship), didn't we? I think that you and I (and Marilyn) are not actually blood related. Didn't we figure out that your cousins married our cousins? So we are only cousins by marriage, but that's okay; you are still a cousin! I have a long line of ancestors on both my parents' sides who lived in Muhlenberg County. Maybe some of you hook into one of my lines. If so, please let me know. Perhaps I can help you with yours. I am always happy to find new cousins. Perhaps some of you can even help me with a couple of my dead ends. My earliest RHOADS ancestor, Capt. Henry RHOADS, was one of the first settlers there. He was the first Representative to the Kentucky Legislature for Muhlenberg County. My RHOADS descendancy and the grandmother lines are: David RHOADS married Elizabeth VAUGHT (dau. of Gilbert VAUGHT & Mary MARTIN) Barnabas RHOADS m. Mary ROLL (dau. of Michael ROLL & Christena VAUGHT) Jacob B. RHOADS m. Mary Jane CLARK (dau. of George CLARK & Isabella GLENN) Ernest Emmett RHOADS m. Ella Montgomery (from Ohio County, d/o Jeremiah Y. & Keziah MCDONNALL MONTGOMERY) My DOBBS and GATES ancestors came there before 1850 and are still represented there. They are: Joseph DOBBS m. Nancy DAVIS (she was born in Tennessee, parents unknown) Thomas DOBBS m. Mary Ann WOOD, dau. of Thomas WOOD & Polly WILLIAMS (Can anybody help on this WILLIAMS?) John H. DOBBS m. Mary Ellen GATES, dau. of Rev. Wm. Jacob GATES & Sarah L. KENDALL William Wesley GATES (son of John Gates & ?) m. Dorann; I have an Isaac Stringer born 1779, died 1853 married to Jane Skeeto Aug. 28, 1823 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. I have absolutely no information on Jane. I would like to have a date of birth and death. I was wondering if you had any information on her. Tim Mitchell (Bethany, Oklahoma) [email protected]
Hello all! I am still searching for Jefferson Davis Spinks and Vianna Dexter. Also, any descendants of Solomon and Katherine (Sisk) Todd and their children, Orleans, Clarindon (sp?), James Corbett, etc. Would anyone know how O.D. Todd was related to this family? Also looking for any descendants of Nathadus and Lucy (O'briant) Robards (Roberts). Beverly Todd [email protected]
If I might suggest, please change your subject line. I have just been searching the mailing list archives, and it is frustrating when the subject lines do not identify the actual subject. I am sure I missed a number of "hits" because of this issue.

Hi Dorann, Thanks so much for the information on Abe Wilcox of Muhlenberg Co., KY. I hadn't ever seen the information where they sold the Pond River land. That was indeed where they lived. I can't say if they bought another parcel. It is a puzzle that Mary (Polly) had a big yard sale in 1808 and yes, I agree that she was getting ready to travel. Like you said, Abe must have stayed there for awhile with the kids. Maybe she came back and they made up for a while. But Abe joined the militia in Scott County, KY and participated in the War of 1812 for which he later got bounty land. He moved on to Missouri about 1813/14 as best we can tell. The kids apparently were left with some relation or maybe Polly took them. If I could ever find those kids names, I might be able to figure out who his parents were. Thanks for the additional information. I'ts possible that the other Wilcox were related. Bill in sunny Phoenix
