    3. >Teri, >I have the following on Wm P son of John and Nancy. The William you listed >below as marrying Rebecca and then Nancy Sparks is my gr gr grandfather. >His actual name is James William. Debbie, I called him James William too. I think you missed the word at the end of the first line quoted below: >>Thomas & Patience. (I show the children of John & Nancy as James >>William Dehart b. ca 1841 who married first Rebecca J. Gilliam >>and second Nancy Jane Sparks, Martha b. ca 1843, Susan b. ca 1846, >>John R. b. ca 1848, Hazel Green b. 1851 who married Amanda, Sarah >>b. ca 1853, and Allen b. ca 1856 who married Susan Cline. Re: >On the Allen you have married to Susan >Cline--I posted a question about this because I have a Susan Sulkie listed. >Do you know who this might be. Did Susan Cline marry a Sulkie before Allen? >Because I also found an Allen that married a Susan Cline. I noticed the Susan Sulkie on your web pages too. It was the first I'd seen that name. Here is what I have: Elliott County Vital Statistics record Allen DeHart m. Susan Cline on 22 Oct 1878. 1880 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Martinsburg precinct, lists as family #121: DeHart, Allen, 24, farmer, Ky Va Ky; Susan, 18, Ky Ky Ky; Martin, 11/12, born July. Now this looks very much to me like the same family. Your page has that he married Susan Sulkie around 1875, and lists 4 children born before Martin. Sources are given for Martin and the later children, but not for the first four. It doesn't seem likely that Susan Cline, who would have been only 16 in 1878 and 13 in 1875, would be the mother of the first four children. I would say that either somebody got two families confused, or else that Allen had a previous wife whom he married very young, and their children either died with their mother or were raised by her relatives. (I've also never seen "Sulkie" as a surname in Morgan, Elliott or Rowan counties. The closest I've seen is Sully/Sulley in Morgan County.) ----- Another thing I noticed about your family for John & Nancy is that you have: >3. MARTHA DEHART was born 1843 in Kentucky. She married DANIEL C. DEHART >August 02, 1868 in Patrick County, Va, son of STEPHEN DEHART and SUSAN >ELGIN. > >Children of MARTHA DEHART and DANIEL DEHART are: > > i. NANNIE11 DEHART. > ii. "BIG BOY" DEHART. >iii. "HIGH CHILD" DEHART. > iv. "BABY" DEHART. Listing Eunice Kirkman as the source for this marriage (and presumably the list of children - it can't be from a census :-). Now she may be correct, but I am wondering what Eunice's source is for this particular Martha going back to Patrick Co., VA, and whether the Martha Dehart who married Daniel C. Dehart might be a different one. >From interviewing Wm P.'s son Ora, at least one of John and Nancy's daughters married a Caudill, and Martha seems the best bet since both Susan and Sarah were single in 1880. (Since I had both Allen and William Paul attached to the wrong parents, based on Thomas and Patience having a son William born in the same year as Wm P and Allen being Wm P's brother, I am not going to hold this kind of "right name wrong parents" error against anybody!) Do you have an 1860 or 1870 census reading for John DeHart & Nancy Bumgartner? I have only 1850 (Morgan) and 1880 (Elliott). I continue to be VERY impressed by your genealogy web pages. Everything from presentation to documentation of sources to the sheer quantity of data is outstanding. When people praise my pages, I often send them your URL with a comment that if they think my research is impressive they should see yours! -- Teri (By the way, if you reply, please don't quote the whole message. It makes it hard for the people who get the list in Digest form to separate out the new material from the repeats. :-)
