    1. Re: Kentuckians - can we laugh at ourselves a little?
    2. Laura McKenzie
    3. I descend from Abraham Lemaster, the emmigrant, four times, at least. I descend from Daniel Brown (progenitor of the Eastern KY Browns) 3 times and two other probably related Browns as well. I descend from Ben Hamilton three times, Edward Hill twice, William Ferguson twice. I have always thought it was neat. Since each marriage took place by at least 3rd cousins, I don't feel there's anything to be ashamed of. I thought the O.J. joke was a bit funny considering the above information. I have to say though that when I was on a list for Native Americans and they started making fun of Kentuckians, they really got it from me! But I think we should all have the ability to laugh at ourselves a little and take the jokes as they were intended. Remember the British made terrible fun of Colonials and because they were able to laugh at themselves, there was no sting to the jokes. The only joke I have ever remembered I heard from my West Virginian uncle in his kitchen when I was four (he lives outside of Louisa towards Inez). It was the one about the West Virginian who got into a terrible accident on the freeway and the state trooper asked him if he saw the yield sign. He said," I sure did officer, and I yield and yield but they still kept a comin." Considering half my family is from across the Big Sandy in WV, I don't take offense at the joke. My mom (the West Virginian) and I still laugh at it. I know Frank meant no harm so how about if we let him alone now about it. -----Original Message----- From: Frank I Elam <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, April 20, 1999 9:39 PM Subject: Re: Kentuckians - Boo ! >Dr. Rice - I am sure sorry that I offended you or anyone else with >Kentucky humor.
