Re: >Is there anyone on this list researching the HALLs of Morgan County, KY? I >would like to identify the parents of Martha Jane Hall who was born Feb 1851 >and married John William CASSITY c.1870 in Morgan County, KY. Linda, It isn't an exact fit, but I show Adeline HALL, b. ca 1848 Morgan Co, dau of Jacob HALL & Nancy BROWN, married about 29 Dec 1868 John W. CASSITY, son of Isaac E. CASSITY & Lucinda ELLINGTON. Morgan Co. marriage book A records license issued on 29 Dec 1868 for J. W. Cassity and Adeline Hall, no return. Adeline apparently died in childbirth in late 1869 or early 1870, because her husband and a 6-month-old daughter are living with her parents in the 1870 census, but she is not. Adeline had a younger sister Martha born about 1849 whom I do not show any marriage information for. Since John W. Cassity was living with the Jacob HALL family in 1870, and Martha was still single at that time, it is quite possible that he married his late wife's sister shortly after the census was taken. If so, they were probably married in Rowan County, as no marriage record exists for either name in Morgan Co. in the 1870's. All Rowan Co. marriage records for the 1870's were destroyed by fire except for a few from 1878 and 1879. 1850 Census of Morgan Co., KY, records on p. 105, family #262: Jacob Hall, 44, farmer; Nancy, 39; Isaac, 19; Mary, 17; Lucinda, 15; Elizabeth, 10; John, 8; Sarah, 5; Adeline, 2; Martha, 1. All born in KY. 1860 census of Morgan Co., KY, lists family #46: Jacob Hall, 54; Nancy, 49; John, 18; Sarrah, 17; Adaline, 12; Martha, 11; Jesse, 7; Emily, 5. All born in Kentucky. 1870 Census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pine Grove Prec., p. 7/133, family #49: Jacob Hall, 62, farmer; Nancy, 58; Martha, 21; Jesse, 16; Emily, 14; Nancy Pettit, 8; Lucinda Coggswell, 30, domestic servant; Lucinda Coggswell, 10/12, b. Aug; Wm Cassidy, 25, farm laborer; Frances Cassidy, 6/12, b. Nov. All born in KY. (The older Lucinda Cogswell is Jacob & Nancy's daughter, who married Samuel Cogswell on 1 Sep 1852. Nancy Pettit is the daughter of Benjamin Pettit and Polly Ann Hall, which would make her a granddaughter of Jacob & Nancy. Judging by the birth dates of Benjamin's children, it is likely that Polly Ann died at Nancy's birth or shortly thereafter, and Benjamin did not remarry until about 1868/69, so Jacob & Nancy raised Polly's baby. Frances Cassidy is almost certainly the daughter of Jacob and Nancy's daughter Adeline, who married John William Cassity in Dec 1868.) Is this a possible fit? What is your source for the Feb 1851 birthdate? If it is the 1900 census, the birthdates on that one are very flaky. Incidentally, I've been updating the Rowan County web site this past week, and added a list of links to family pages. Your Cassity/Cassidy Family Association page is on the list. See: http://www.best.com/~tpettit/rowan/rowanref.html about 2/3 the way down the page. (I also stole the animated "New" sticker from your page, hope you don't mind. I figured it was probably clip art that you found somewhere.) // Teri Pettit
