Just that she is the right age and living in the right place. According to the Bicentennial Edition of the Rowan County News, printed in 1956, two of the sons of Samuel Alfrey were Adam Alfrey who married Hester "Hettie" Ramey, and Fielding Alfrey who married Martha "Patsy" Johnson. Both were living in Rowan County in 1860. Rachel and Samuel are probably also the parents of Alfred H. Alfrey who married Mary Ann Bradshaw on 3 Feb 1840 in Morgan Co., and who was living next door to the widow Rachel Alfrey in 1850. Andrea Medard <[email protected]>, the moderator of this list (which I just joined today - thanks for inviting me in Andrea!), when she contacted me by email last July, also listed as siblings of Adam Alfrey and Fielding Alfrey: >George Alfrey (b. 1811; m. Louisa Lancaster - of Fleming Co. KY, > - 10 Sept 1829 Bath Co. KY; d. 9 Sept. 1852 Fleming Co. KY); >Barbara Alfrey (b. 1812 KY; m. Absolum Clark 1827-29 Bath Co.; > d. 27 Mar 1978 Sardorus Champaign, IL, buried in Rice Cemetery) Andrea gave the father of these four (Adam, Fielding, George & Barbara) as John instead of Samuel, which does not agree with the article in the Rowan County News. She did not mention Alfred H. Alfrey. There was a John Alfrey in Bath County who was the father of Elizabeth Alfrey who married Christopher Myers on 21 Apr 1814 in Bath Co., and of Rachel Alfrey who married Joseph Myers on 21 Oct 1816 in Bath Co. This John Alfrey seems to have children who were marrying at the same time that Samuel Alfrey married Rachel Cassity, so he might be Samuel's father instead of his brother. The article in the Rowan County News states "Vernon Alfrey, who furnished this family tree, had it all the way to the present day, but it numbers hundreds upon hundreds of living people." Does anybody know who now has the information collected by this Vernon Alfrey? My web site has pages for Fielding, Adam and Alfred, but it is pretty out-of-date. This site does not represent the current state of my database.
