Peggy, Thanks for the offer to check your information to see if anyone could prove to be a lead. Betty ELAM was the daughter of John C. (son of Gilbert and Catherine [COOLEY] ELAM) and Rebecca (COFFEE) ELAM. There children were: Elam, Benjamin Franklin, Birth : 16 May 1855 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY Elam, Henry Birth : 2 Aug 1858 Wheelrim, Morgan County, TN Elam, Amanda Jane (married Richard Menifee ELAM) Birth : 20 Dec 1860 Johnson, Morgan County, KY Elam, Tennessee "Tennie" (married Sollie Bach) Birth : 26 Jan 1884 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY Elam, Nancy Birth : 11 Oct 1866 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY Elam, Elizabeth (Betty - never married) Birth : 23 Apr 1868 Wheelrim, Morgan, KY Elam, William Taylor (married Mary PATRICK) Birth : 1867 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY Elam, Margaret Birth : 1871 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY Elam, George (married Sarah Jane PATRICK, daughter of Brice PATRICK and Martha ELAM PATRICK) Birth : 1 Oct 1873 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY Elam, Martha Birth : 12 May 1876 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY The supposed fathers of Betty's children in order of birth are John PATRICK (father of Wardie Lee and Josephine [PATRICK] WELLS), ?? LONG (father of Bernie ELAM), ?? AMYX (father of Troy ELAM), Clayton ROSE (father of Pearl [ELAM] ANDERSON HANEY BRADLEY and possibly McCARTY thrown in there somewhere), and Preston PATRICK (father of twins Alta [PATRICK] PETRY and Elta [PATRICK] STOUT). Pearl was one who said who her father was, and the twins were seperated at a young age, with Alta being raised by Preston and his wife, and Elta was adopted by a SMITH, who had changed his last name to his mother's maiden name - it was originally RAMEY, and when he died at a young age he wanted his mother, Angeline SMITH (who had remarried to an Adam BANKS) to raise Elta. (Are you confused yet?!) Pearl had said in a letter to me in the early 1980s that Alta was the only one who was raised by her father. She also said she had never seen Wardie Lee and had only seen Josephine once. Information I've recently come across suggests Wardie claimed John and Delphia (WILLIAMS) PATRICK as his parents, so perhaps he grew up with them. My grandfather was raised at least for a while by his cousin Charlie ELAM and his wife Mary ROSE ELAM. BEtty did not raise any of the children, they apparently were "farmed out" to relatives. There seems to be a lot of PATRICKs that tied into this family, but I don't know how or if they are related to each other. Rebecca COFFEE ELAM's (Betty's mother) mother's maiden name was Peggy PATRICK, but I don't know anything about her family of birth. Hope some of these names will ring a bell. Thanks again, Sharon >Hi Sharon, >I have quite a bit of information on the Amyx line but this is new >information for me. I have not heard anything about this. Maybe if you >could send me more information on your Troy Elam and Betty Elam, I could find >some names in my data base that may be a "lead" for you. I would be >interested in also knowing of this information. A lot of my information that >I have I do not have on my computer - so let me know some more names etc. > >Looking forward to hearing from you. >Peggy Walker in Texas
