Morgan Co. Ky marriage book 1, p. 75, records the marriage of John P. DOWNING and Nancy NICKELL on 4 Feb 1846, by Thomas Easterling. Does anybody know who the parents of this Nancy NICKELL were? There are so many NICKELL families in Morgan County, and since John & Nancy were married before 1850, I can't even narrow the possibilities down by looking for her with her parents in the census. John P. DOWNING was born 11 Nov 1827 in Montgomery Co., KY, son of Dennis DOWNING and Mary McCORMICK. He was my GGG Uncle. Here are the only other records I have on this family: 1850 Census of Morgan Co., Ky, lists family #814: John Downing, 22; Nancy, 22; James, 3; Joseph, 1. All born in Ky. They moved to Shelby Co., KY between 1853 and 1858, judging by these two records: Morgan Co. Ky death records, on LDS microfilm #216835, Mary Elizabeth DOWNING died 8 Mar 1853, age 6 weeks, parents J. P. & Nancy Downing, residence White Oak, cause of death whooping cough. Shelby Co. Ky birth records, on LDS microfilm #216840, record birth of John Dennis DOUNING to John P. DOUNING and Nancy NICHOLS on 7 Apr 1859.
