    3. Hello John - From what I have been told, and read, back in the "old days", a madstone was a prized possession. My grandad said everyone in the area knew if someone who lived close-by had a madstone. A madstone was a growth of some kind found in the stomach of a deer, and some say could be found in the stomach of a cow. The madstone would be soaked in milk and applied to a snake bite or "mad dog" bite to draw out the poison. That's about it, John. Best wishes...
