Kathy, et al., Good work on the Deed. I have transcribed it as close as I could. It appears that Joseph was selling his land in Morgan County, Ky. He sure had a lot of acres, 477 total. I was able to use Street Atlas USA software that I have and determine where "CANEY CREEK" is off the Licking River in Morgan County, but I can not determine where "LITTLE CANEY CREEK" is... Do you know what it is? Is it the same as Caney Creek but just called different by different area residents? ....or Is it a separate watercourse that comes off of Caney Creek somewhere? Anyway, I did find some "Elam" roads that are near Caney Creek and I suspect that I am real close geographically to where his property was/is. He and Chilton's property look very close and may have adjoined each other. You'll see in the transcript below where it adjoins the Elam property. I summit that it was all part of one big land grant to their Father, Joseph McKinney for his service in the Military but I can't prove that yet! Just to show you the contrast... I paid $800.00 an acre for some land in Rowan County a few years ago.... and Joseph received $800.00 for 477 ACRES in 1858... of course, $800.00 in those days was a LARGE sum of money! Chilton was 37 and Joseph R. was 36 years old when he sold his property. Their Father, Joseph was already deceased and Virginia Jane was remarried and would live another 30 some years and die in 1890. Virginia Jane is buried next to her second husband in the Grassy Lick Cemetery, in Morgan County, just outside of present day West Liberty, Kentucky. enjoy... ********************************************************** J.R.
