Folks, besides the Blanton DNA project, I'm also following the Brown DNA project. A longtime friend and fellow researcher of Hampshire County Browns (where Thomas C Brown and supposedly Nathaniel Brown came from) has helped arrange for several dna tests for descendants of the OTHER Thomas Brown in Hampshire/Hardy Co WV. If any of you are male and carry the Brown surname, you would qualify for the study. Participating would certainly clear things up a bit and all it takes is a swab inside your cheek (no blood test.) There is a fee. You'll have to look at the website to find that information. At the bottom of the note below there is a link for more information. Not understanding how it worked, I asked about the fact that all my relatives descend from Thomas C Brown, Nathaniel Brown, Jame Wallace Brown (Morgan County Browns), and Samuel Brown (possible Floyd Co). Would having that many lines cause confusion on the test. The answer is no because the genetic marker is carried in the male line. That is why you must still carry the Brown surname and be a male. Now I'm going to hunt down that article if its possible and try to figure out what its all about :) Laura *************************** Laura's pages for Homeschooling, Gardening, and Genealogy are found here: http://home.att.net/~ekyorigins ******************* ----- Original Message ----- From: <W5DRP@aol.com> To: <Brown-dna-project@questgenealogy.com> Sent: Thursday, March 06, 2003 9:56 PM Subject: [Brown-dna-project] Great Article on DNA Genealogy > Dear Supporters of the Brown Project: > > There's an excellent article on DNA genealogy on the front page of today's > (March 6) edition of the Wall Street Journal. > > The article uses the Wells Surname Project as a point of departure, with a > couple of very interesting success stories. > > If you can get your hands on this article, be sure to read it.
