Hello Sharon and Dorothy: The originator of this message stream was Joanne Pezzullo (a Manning descendant with Elam, Gibson and Havens "tie-ins") . I too am a Manning / Elam descendant with the same ancestor "tie-ins". After reading your letter below Dorothy - I see that all of us - Joanne, Sharon, yourself and me (Joe Greene) are distantly related. Joanne and I are fairly closely related. We all, it seems, converge back to the William Cannon Elam - then beyond. For us Mannings that arise from William Samuel Manning and Laura Belle Elam we share a double - actually a triple line back to William Cannon Elam. My direct Elam line is via my Grandfather Ulysses Grant Elam of Wheelrim, Morgan Co. as married to Nettie Margaret Manning (daughter of William Samuel and Laura Belle Elam Manning). Grant Elam was the son of Benjamin Elam and Emily Jane Holbrook. Benjamin was the son of Gilbert Elam who as you know was the son of William Cannon Elam. Grant's siblings were; Simon, Ransom ("Rance"), Addie, Minta ("Mintee"), "Rannel" (Randolf / Randal). Grant was also related to "Press" Preston Elam. It is said that Troy Elam spent at least a little time residing with Benjamin and Emily Jane Elam and in that way knew my Grandfather Grant Elam. Concerning the reference to "Kaney Elam" - I would guess/suggest that this is a type of "nick name" - a reference to the homeplace location of the "clan" of Elams started by one of the original Elam Morgan County settlers on Caney Creek. There was at least two other "clans" that are referred to in various family documents. It was fairly common for a Morgan County resident - especially an Elam to refer to another Elam by his/her "clan" name as a method of clarification. I recall my grandfather says such things as "he's a Caney Elam". To view other photos and family history of Elams, Mannings and others, I direct you to Joanne's website as follows - just click on: http://www.geocities.com/pezzullo03/mannin0.html SO - HELLO "Cousins" -- as distant cousins as we may be. My mother - Bethel Lee Elam is alive and kicking at 84 y.o.a. in Ceredo Wva. (next to Ashland, Ky). I will provide contact information to Elam / Manning relatives who contact me. Mom has vivid memories of many of our Elam and Manning ancestors. Regards - Joe Greene P.S. I am proud to say that ALL my ancestors came from Morgan and Magoffin Counties (and nearby places) -- then first from Virginia. ***************************************** dorothy shaver wrote: > Hello Sharon, > > Did your grandfather use a different first name?
