In the first Court Order book of MOrgan County 1823-1830, there is a Mary Patrick widow of ELias Patrick, whose estate was sold at auction by the sheriff at that time. This was August court in 1829. ----- Original Message ----- From: <BnLFAMILY@aol.com> To: <KYMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 30, 2003 1:07 PM Subject: Re: [KYMORGAN] Mary (?) Just a shot in the dark but could Mary possibly be Mark? Thanks, Dave. But it was definitely Mary, and they had her posted as a female on the 1840 census. Evidently just a mistake in 1830. Bud IN GOD WE TRUST MY HOME PAGE http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/c/a/u/Richard-M-Caudle/index.html
checked those for a Patrick family with mom, Mary, giving birth. That would be nice. Right now I'm trying out the 'process of elimination.' I'm printing out all Patricks in census records for 1820, 1830, and 1840 so I can compare which Patricks had sons in the right age category, then who was still there in the next census. I think I have it down to my Samuel's parents being either Mary and her husband, or Reuben. Bud, its too bad we don't have births for before 1830. You could have checked those for a Patrick family with mom, Mary, giving birth. Good luck in your search and let us know what new lines develop so we can keep track of cousinhoods :) Laura *************************** Laura's pages for Homeschooling, Gardening, and Genealogy are found here: http://home.att.net/~ekyorigins ******************* ----- Original Message ----- From: <BnLFAMILY@aol.com> To: <KYMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 27, 2003 10:52 PM Subject: [KYMORGAN] Mary (?) I got excited to soon. I got the bright idea (too late) to look for Mary in 1840. Sure enough, there SHE was, 40 - 50 years old. The 1830 census taker had entered her incorrectly as a male head of household. Now all I need to do is find out who her husband was and what her maiden name was, and I'm ALMOST sure I''ll have the parents of my 3x great grandfather at long last. I'm really confused on this one, and hope someone can give me some advice or information. The 1830 census of Morgan County lists a Mary Patrick. At least that is what it looks like - quite clear. Here's what it shows: 1 male 10 - 15 1 male 15 - 20 1 male 30 - 40 2 females 15 - 20 Normally, I'd think the 30 - 40 year old male would be head of house hold. But is Mary a man's name? I've not seen it for a man before. I hope someone knows about who this person is. Or perhaps the census taker mistakenly listed female head of household in the male column??? Or is one of the 15 - 20 year old females actually the head of household and a young widow/divorcee?? This family is in the right place and has a son the right age to be my 3x great grandfather Samuel Patrick. They are only 7 households away for William Coffee, father of Emilee Coffee whom my Samuel Patrick married. I am looking for information about Elizabeth Lizzie Nickell's mother, Elizabeth [called Bettie]. It has been tradition in my family that this Bettie's maiden name was Baker and that she was born in Perry Co., Ky. and that maybe true but I am needing to get some facts straight about this. I want my information to be accurate and when I've looked on the internet on Ancestry. com and the Mormon site, there are two different families claiming that Elizabeth Nickell who was married to John B. Nickell's parents were John Jackson Baker and Mary Campbell. One of those families comes from our line and the other says that John Jackson Baker and Mary Campbell had a daughter named Elizabeth Baker called Betsy who married twice, once to a John Shepherd and they had children and then to a James Jim Hendrix. I don't want to put John Jackson Baker and Mary Campbell down as the parents of my Bettie Nickell if they are not but don't want to throw that out either if they are. Here is what I have and I am hoping that maybe someone up there can help me to see if it is correct and then to find out who Bettie Nickell who married John B. Nickell's parents were. I have John B. Nickell born 1816-1819 in Morgan Co., Ky. and married Elizabeth Bettie ? on March 22, 1839 [I sure would like ot have a copy of their marriage record or at least know what it says so I could find out what Bettie's maiden name was]. I have the marriage record of my Charles Little and Charlotte Bryant Little who married in 1824 in Morgan Co., Ky. and of his parents Peter D. Little and Hannah Minton who also married in 1824 for the second time so if there is one as far back as that, surely there is one for the year of 1839 or somewhere there abouts. I have had two different people looking for it and they can't find it. I don't know if maybe they were married in another county or what???? Anyway, I have that John B. Nickell died in 1891 in Washington Co., Arkansas and is buried there in the Nickell cemetery along with his wife, Bettie and their son Joseph D. Little and other Nickell's. On Elizabeth [Bettie] Nickell, I have that she was born in Sept. of 1818 or 1822 in Perry Co., Ky. and that she died in July of 1899 or 1900 in Washington Co., Ark. The children of John B.Nickell and BEttie were: 1. Priscilla Nickell born 1840 in Morgan Co., Ky. 2. Elizabeth Lizzie Nickell born Dec. 30, 1841 in Morgan Co., Ky. and married Greenville T. Little in 1860 [would like to know about their marriage record also]. She died on Jan. 3, 1929 in Dallas, Texas. 3. Robert Nickell born 1844 in Morgan Co., Ky. and died in 1852. 4. Mary Pertinia Nickell born 1845 in Morgan Co.,KY. and married John Lyons in 1869 and died in 1886 in Ark. 5. Andrew Thomas Nickell called Spaniard. He was born June 3, 1850 in Morgan Co.,Ky. and married China Perlina Wallen abt. 1871. He died on Nov. 3, 1916 in Washington Co., Ark. and is buried there, I think. 6. Henry E. Nickell born 1852 in Morgan Co., Ky. and married 1. Orlena Jane Wilson; 2. Halley Banks; 3. Adeline Wells. He died on March 5, 1926 in Wolfe Co., Ky. 7. Nancy Jane Nickell born Jan. 31, 1854 in Morgan Co., Ky. and married Abner Terry Shackelford on July 14, 1874 in Wolfe Co., Ky. and died Feb. 16, 1935 in Hazel Valley, Ark. 8. Frances "Fanny" Nickell born June 1855 in Morgan Co., Ky. and married Stanley Gossit Shackelford in 1877. I don't know when or where she died. 9. Perlina "Line" Nickell born Nov. 1857 in Morgan Co., Ky. and married William Stanford Bud Shackelford in 1878. She died in 1948 but don't know where she died. 10. Joseph D. Nickell born 1859-60 in Morgan Co., Ky. and married Mary Jane Leslie in 1888 and he died in 1917 and is buried beside his parents in Washington Co., Ark. I would like to find descendants of these children. If I could get a death certificate on any of these children, it might have the maiden name of their mother on it. I would like to at least find out for sure what Bettie Nickell's maiden name was. That would be a place to start and something that we could have as proven evidence of her maiden name or perhaps someone has a family Bible with this information in it that could share that info. with me. Sure hope to hear from someone on this and maybe have some help with a marriage record for John B. Nickell and his wife Elizabeth Bettie and or a death certificate info. on some of these descendants. Thanks so much, Jane Little McEndree janemc@airmail.net
Jane If you are looking for "ANYTHING" Nickell, I would say your best bet would be to start with Don Nickell. I don't think anyone would argue with me on that Don is THE authority on Nickell.
