Dear Sharon, This name can be found in many spelling variations! I have been so stuck on this line, of my mothers family. While they were in MO, the research was easy, as I live here, and they lived within 4 counties in MO of me, Morgan, Pettis, Cooper, and lastly Johnson where they died. They must have been fairly wealthy as they were very large landowners in Johnson. While they lived in Morgan co. MO, there was another George, too, by ages, may have also been the same George as in your county. *Are you pretty knowledgeable with land records? They get so confusing for me. My John Maddox was on the tax lists, so he must have owned land. I am interested in that. Maybe a copy of the title. Maybe it will tell me where he came from before he settled in Morgan co. KY. I don't know what these might tell you?? MORGAN CO Tax lists 1830 MATTOX JOHN Morgan County KY 069 West Liberty Town 20001-00001 Maddox, Jno Morgan 50 7-23-1834 L-2 l Fk Road Fk Maddox, Jno Morgan 50 7-23-1834 L-2 Ist I Fk Middle Fk Maddox, George Morgan 110 10- 4-1825 T M Fk Licking R Maddox, George Morgan 150 7- 4-1833 E-2 Licking R 1830 MATTOX GEORGE Morgan County KY 074 No Twp 11110001-1101001 1840 MATTOX JAMES Morgan County KY 315 No Township Listed221001-001001 *His wife was Mahalia or Mahala Gillmore. Mahalia and John were married on January 17, 1825 in Morgan county. She was supposed to be born in KY. He was supposed to be born in VA. A copy of their marriage record would be nice. If you reconize a ministers name on the record, and might know what church he ministered, that would help too. *I am curious about the George Maddox. I am curious, because he was old enough, it is possible that he may have been my Johns father. Can you see if there is record of a George Maddox will? If there is, and if he had a son listed as John, may I have a copy of the will? If it looks to you like George may have been his father, and if it isn't too much bother, then maybe *you can look on George's title of his land to see if it says where he may have came from. The only dates that I have that are possible to give you an idea of the time period, is the marriage in 1825, and George and John were both on the 1830 census. I need to look at earlier censuses there, but it isn't indexed, and I have to look page by page. Morgan wasn't established yet, so I have to look in Bath and Floyd counties. I am looking through them right now to see if I find any Maddox listed. I find no Maddox's listed in Bath Co. KY in 1820. But, page 9 in Bloomfield TWP wouldn't load. They could have possibly been on that page. I think I may have found them in 1820, Floyd County, Roll22 Book1 Image7 pg14 It is a George Maddox and has a son listed that would be about John's age, and further down on the same page, I see a William Gilmore and he has a daughter listed about the right age. I didn't get all through Floyd twn, was working on it today, but I think I found something here. John and family were supposed to be in Cooper co. MO by 1837. If they do charge you, make sure you tell me, so I can pay you back. And I can pay you for your bother! Just let me know. Thankyou so very much for your help!! Can you send us more information on this line too? Farther back? My Maddox were in Morgan in 1830, and maybe in Floyd county. I believe my family was Floyd in 1820, because there was a Gilmore family a couple doors down and this is my family tree: (Thanks a lot, Denise Brauer Hoehns) Descendants of John Maddox Generation No. 1 1. Thank you Naaman, I went to that site and followed all the links in detail. All I can say is that this web site is woefully lacking on correct dates. I have almost twice as many dates as the Nickell site and I have the Month, Day and Year in most cases where they only have the Year. ....if anyone is interested? ? ? My gggg grandfather John Maddox lived in Morgan County, KY. He was on the census 1830, Morgan County, KY, West Liberty TWP Roll 40, Book 1, Pg 69a-b Can anyone tell me where this is? Can anyone tell me Methodists churches in the area in this time period? John married Mahalia Gillmore on January 17, 1825 in Morgan, and I was hoping to also find it in a church record, as their daughter's obit said her mothers name was Mahalia Yost. To me this would mean she was born a Yost and married a Gillmore previously, before she married John. But I don't know this, until I find proof. Also if you know the churches, can you give me a address to contact them? I also need the address for the court house, if anyone knows it. There was also a George Maddox there in 1830, Morgan County, KY, West Liberty TWP Roll 40, Book 1,Pg 74a-b I am wondering if maybe this might not be John's father. Thanks Denise in MO
Ruth, Hi... what if anything can you tell me about Eleanor's brother Robert Nickell who married Rachael Cogswell? Also, IF you have information on Robert and Rachael, what can you tell me about John Henry Nickell, who was their son and was the Chief of Police in Morehead for many years. John Henry Nickell married Florence Ethel Hunt and they had, among others, a daughter named Addie Myrtle Nickell. Addie was the first wife of my Grandfather, Elbert Walker McKinney. Addie died as result of childbirth with her second son. She is buried in the Ginter Cemetery in Bath County on the Licking River and Cave Run Lake area. My line comes through Bert's third wife, Amy Lee Bailey. I have much on the Nickell's but it is not my own research but I believe it to be reliable. Two other of Addie's brother's were Doctors of Medicine in Morehead, namely Homer Lee Nickell and Grover Cleveland Nickell. Hello there fellow searchers. I am looking for my gggg grandfather Elijah Adams. I have found a marriage license in Fountain Bluff, Illinois (Jackson County) where he married for the second time in 1886 and listed himself being born in Morgan County KY and his father was Wesyune Adams and mother was Saly Wilson. I believe these are both misspelled names by the recorder since I have found the spelling of his name 3 different ways so far (Elisha, Elijah and Eligha.) I am hoping that someone has some information about Elijah and if possible his parents. He would have been born about 1824. The way my family looks is a little like this: a.. Wesyune Adams b.. Sally Wilson c.. d.. -- Elijah Adams b abt 1824 e.. Eliza Warren b abt 1834 married abt 1854 f.. g.. --Lucy Adams b. abt 1854 h.. --John Adams b abt 1856 i.. --Thomas Adams b abt 1859 j.. --Danial Adams b about 1864 k.. --James Adams b about 1868 l.. m.. --John Adams m. 1883 died about 1889 n.. --Isabella Franzia Drake o.. --Allie Adams b 1884 p.. --Manuel Adams 1888 q..
