Hey Folks letting you know about a new web site: Civil War in Morgan County- the url is Civilhttp://civilwar.morganco.freeservers.com/index.htm Would Laura, Marla, and Sharon Jebavey and Connie Wireman, please link this to their sites and anyone else who wants to. You will all find it an interesting site aand very informative once we really get it rolling. The webmaster will be Danny Akers who is a current re-inactor of the civil war, and has graciously agreed to do this. If anyone has questions you may contact me or Danny at the email address on the site. Trust me it is very impressive and a fine job by Mr. Akers. Thanks to all Sharon

I am not fully familiar with the camping facilities at each - but you might try the Greenbo lake area or the Carter Caves park area. At the Jenny Wiley Park area - one can stay a night - lake side at a turn out on the road around the lake - FOR FREE. I did this in 2001 and saw dozens of others at the numerous "turn outs" along the way. Of, course there are no connections or dump tank for a travel trailer - but it was a no hassle stop for an overnight. There was even a charcoal grill. I experienced the most wonderful foggy full moon shining over the lake between two mountains on that evening. If you have too big a rig - I'm not sure what the park rangers would say. I would suggest - just park - don't make a big layout and spend the evening - GREAT PRICE. Hi everyone, we are heading out for a very quick trip to Grayson, Louisa, Flatwoods, Winchester, etc. We're trying to find a central place to camp on Saturday night. On my gazetteer I see a camp site just west of the Morgan County border with Menifee County (near Big Woods). Does anyone know the name of this campground? Twin Knobs is full and I'm fixing to call other nearby campgrounds but there is not a name for this campground on my map, just a little teepee. Can you all make any other recommendations? I'm familiar with the state parks but they don't allow reservations. I hate the idea of driving around trying to find something at the last minute. The Falls campground in Fallsburg said I'd have to reserve three nights too but we can't stay that long. Thanks so much! Hopefully I'll be getting a picture or two to share and I plan to stop in Relief to visit our family cemetery but it looks like I'll be up and down 23 visiting most of the time. Hello, I am writing to the group today to let all of you know we are closer than ever now to getting the Bishop/Bischoff book done. I am still accepting pictures and information however, that any descendants or other researchers may wish to contribute. This book is about all of the known descendants of Hans Johannes Bischoff (later name changed to John Bishop) and Margaretha Overmeyer, 1/st wife- 2/nd wife/partner Ruth Elkins. Family settled in the Floyd/Montgomery county areas of Virginia, with descendants spreading out and concentrating in the Pike/Floyd/Lawrence/Morgan etc county areas in Kentucky, and also into Jackson/Roane county areas in West Virginia. If anyone has any other pictures, etc that they would like to contribute, please email me privately at nancyb@nicsweb.com - I thank you in advance for your time, Nancy Bishop

Kathy, et al., Good work on the Deed. I have transcribed it as close as I could. It appears that Joseph was selling his land in Morgan County, Ky. He sure had a lot of acres, 477 total. I was able to use Street Atlas USA software that I have and determine where "CANEY CREEK" is off the Licking River in Morgan County, but I can not determine where "LITTLE CANEY CREEK" is... Do you know what it is? Is it the same as Caney Creek but just called different by different area residents? ....or Is it a separate watercourse that comes off of Caney Creek somewhere? Anyway, I did find some "Elam" roads that are near Caney Creek and I suspect that I am real close geographically to where his property was/is. He and Chilton's property look very close and may have adjoined each other. You'll see in the transcript below where it adjoins the Elam property. I summit that it was all part of one big land grant to their Father, Joseph McKinney for his service in the Military but I can't prove that yet! Just to show you the contrast... I paid $800.00 an acre for some land in Rowan County a few years ago.... and Joseph received $800.00 for 477 ACRES in 1858... of course, $800.00 in those days was a LARGE sum of money! Chilton was 37 and Joseph R. was 36 years old when he sold his property. Their Father, Joseph was already deceased and Virginia Jane was remarried and would live another 30 some years and die in 1890. Virginia Jane is buried next to her second husband in the Grassy Lick Cemetery, in Morgan County, just outside of present day West Liberty, Kentucky. enjoy... ********************************************************** J.R.
