Phebe J. married a man last name Wood, thats all I know on her. I do have a picture of Dorcas, alittle one, which I've been frantically looking for since we moved in July. I put it in a safe place and forgot the safe place, just like a woman. I don't think she looks Indian. My dad looks Indian, high cheek bones, black hair and his skin color is brick red, like an Indian. He has blue eyes, this is a story he was told from his mother Dora Lewis, that they come from a tribe of blue-eyed Cherokee's. I heard that story all my life even when my grandmother Dora was alive. My dad says I look more like his side of the family, the Lewis's. I don't know about the Prater line and the Cherokees. I just recently received info from a Prater cousin, Peggy Sue Wilson, on the Praters, havent diguested the who scope of family info. Good luck on the Cherokee research. My husband is Cherokee and I'm doing research on his family line, the Vernons. I have copies of his family's Indian papers from Georgia before they left for Ok. His Ggreatgrandfather spent 13 years in El Reno prision for being a rennagade Indian and clubbing a few wifes to death. If I find Dorcas Lewis picture I'll send you a copy, need to send John Wills a copy also, he's a cousin to all this also. Take care Kathy Noah

Judith this is going to be another confusing note BUT, wouldn't OXSHIRE probably be Auxier? I ask because I descend from John Van Hoose and Mary Bryan (b.ca 1770). Their son Jesse married Edy Brown (grdaughter of Thomas C.). Mary's nephew married an Oxshire. Mary's Bryan family seems to be mixed mightily with the Germana colony (Rectors, Hite, etc) in VA. Mary Goodyear was asking me about Mary's brother's grandson, Owen Ramey, and I ran across a note that his son married an Oxshire. I'm thinking that the Houisen family and House I run up against in Frederick County Va with our Browns (Friends etc...) might be John Van Hoose's family. Thanks Laura

An added advantage, said Duke, was that they produced "a great deal more noise than one would expect from their size and appearance." The men with Duke's Second Kentucky Cavalry were quite fond of their two little guns, and affectionately nicknamed them their "bull pups." %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% DEO VINDICE!

Hi Barbara, In the 1850 census, it reads Harmon born in Va. Dorcus's name I think is spelled wrong, I've seen it spelled Darcus, but her tombstone is spelled Dorcus Census shows Benj and James as Twins age 2. I didnt know about Margarett. They also had another daughter Lucinda R. Lewis born in 1853 and died 6 Aug 1854. Jefferson Davis birth yr I question, first I have 1858 but then I come up with 1861. My g grandfather was married to Emma Wills one of their children is named Dora, that is my grandmother. William still has one child alive living in Arkon, Ohio, Audrie. My dad talks with her every mo. and sends her money. She doesnt remember to much. William's sister Louisa married a Stephen Wills, and they had a girl Emma, she married William. I have her picture, we just moved, I thought I put it in a save place, but I can't find it. I hope it shows up soon. John C. was born Nov 1870 in Kty. During the summer my dad would go to Caney. He tells me some really neat stories about his time there. I wonder if Margarett E. died young, my family info I received form a aunt on that side didnt list a Margarett E. Census of 1840 of Floyed Co. shows a John Lewis still with children at home then a Stratton, who one of Harmon's sister's marrried, then Squire Lewis with wife and small girl.. My family stories goes that they came from Tazwell Va. to Kty. I think they went to Floyd Co. first. Squire Lewis stayed in Floyd Co. its been said he owned alot of land there and was like a patriarch of Daniel's Creek. Do you know how I might get a death certificate on Harmon? Hope to here from you soon. Kathy
Walter, Most generally when family was buried on private land, there were no records to show who was buried where. Ann

Hi, I thought this site might be of interest to others. Could someone confirm for me who Isaac, Joseph and Jonathan Lemaster belong to? (I'm thinking Isaac is my Isaac but I'm hoping someone else knows for sure). Who are their spouses? For the Brown researchers, notice Joseph Asberry. This may be a clue for Francis Asbury Brown (s/o Thomas C. Brown). I believe the Thomas Brown on the list is the other Thomas Brown of Hampshire County and not Thomas C. Maybe Bob Orr could confirm for me?
I'm looking for records of a cemetery near Holliday in southern Morgan County where my WHITELEY and DAVIS ancestors are buried. A cousin, Charlie Holliday, has located the gravesites, but they are unmarked. They're on private land. I'm thinking there is a list somewhere -- a church, for example -- that will show who is buried where. Any suggestions? Thank you! Hi everyone! I am writing to tell you about another mailing list that just came about...Johnson Co. If you have roots in this county, then you may want to join this list also. As you would think, to join this list you will not find it on the Johnson Co. Main page. You won't find it in Johnson Co. at all. To make a very long story short, as many of you know, there is a unique link on the Morgan page called "Ask Ann". This is a page that has helpful hints and advice for genealogists researching their Eastern Ky ancestors. The "Ask Ann" is Ann Lemaster- Applegate. Ann is the listowner for the Johnson Co. mailing list. This is her baby....She had contacted Mary Goodyear (Johnson CC) about linking to the list but there has been no response. So she contacted me since she has a link off of the Morgan page. I wrote Nancy Trice (Ky SC) and Nancy gave us the all systems go sign to link this off of the Morgan page. It may sound a little silly but we all wanted this to happen without stepping on anyones toes. So here is the link to the Ask Ann page where you can sign up to join the Johnson Co. list. It is sure to be as successful and helpful as this Morgan Mailing list is. Thanks, Deanna Levito Morgan CC "Home of the "Ask Ann" page and the Johnson Co. Mailing List

Hi! You mentioned the Morgan Co. Court Order Book: Is this a Nickell book, also? I'm looking for the buyers at the sale of Daniel Allen, who died in early 1826 in Morgan Co. Absolem Hughes was appointed to sell his belongings, including slaves, "if any". I believe Absolem was the father of Daniel's wife, Nancy Hughes. Absolem was shown in the 1840 Morgan Co. census and, I believe, died in Morgan Co. before 1850. Can someone tell me how to get a copy of this Court Order Book and/or a copy of the cemetery burials in Morgan prior to 1850? Thank you! Glenda
