    3. I really can't beleive someone would put such a list of humorless things on a genealogy site. I'm from Northwestern Ohio and I have alot of great family their and I'm insulted at this posting. It goes to show you how desperate some people are for attention. Get a life!!!! 3. I agree with Dr. Rice , I am apalled that anyone would consider posting such derogatory ethnic and stereotypical insults , especially on a geneology site. I think it was a stupid action taken by a selfish ignorant person and that persons name and address should be removed and forever banned from any and all geneology mailing lists. ---------- > From: Bill & Thelma Rice <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: Kentuckians - Boo ! > Date: Tuesday, April 20, 1999 8:48 PM > > > > > Frank I Elam Wrote": > > Subject: Kentuckians > > > A Kentucky State trooper ....<Rest Snipped> > > Frank, most of us that live here, probably didn't > find this very humorous. While you may have meant to share a light moment, in fact, it's an unfair and unwarranted regional stereotyping. Of course, we Kentuckians do have a sense of humor, but not when it unfairly demeans those living and those we are researching. I apologize to the list for reacting publicly, but I'm offended... 2. Hey it's understandable that some people are serious minded, and fail to see the humor. Frankly I see the humor, and it was a good change, just been watching the kids out in Colorado, now that's not funny. Those that are upset, think of the intent, was it really to ridicule, or was humor attempted. Reminds me, as a kid, if someone called you a Son of b_t_ch, they had better be smiling, to insure their intent. I realize that jokes can't be the main items in this list. Intent is the way to judge in my humble opinion. To stay on topic, does anyone with a cemetery of Morgan Co. have a cemetery listed at Chapel KY, in Morgan Co.? Buck

    2. Frank and Entire Morgan List, Good grief people, lighten up!! In a world with wars, school shootings, etc., you'd think a bit of humor would help us all get through the day. I am a born and bred West Virginian, BUT, ALL of my ancestors are from Kentucky and I am VERY proud of that. We Appalachians are a very unique group of people. We are proud, intelligent, hardworking and also have hardshells. If we didn't we would never have survived this long as a culture. My grandmother was born in Morgan County. I have very close ties to Bath County, Floyd County, Greenup County and several more. I am a mile, (as the crow flies) from the Kentucky border. I have friends AND family who are just across the Big Sandy River. God knows, if anyone gets the brunt of jokes, it's West Virginia. We're barefoot, pregnant, toothless, jobless and Lord, do we love those food stamps. But if that letter had been about West Virginians rather than Kentuckians, it would have not been any less humorous. I have listened to TV (yes, and we do love those big satellite dishes to sit beside our mobile homes, too) all day long about the horror in Colorado and I found Frank's jokes to be absolutely hilarious. I don't understand you people. Anything to take our minds off worldy matters. You can surely ban Frank from the list, but throw me out too. He made my day a little brighter. I have forwarded his letter to all my friends and family (some pure bred Kentuckians.) Paula Berry Hampton West Virginia

    2. I am not researching the McGuires either, but took a peek in my ftm file and I have a couple of McGuires that married into the family. Such as Rebecca E. McGuire born 1865 and died 1951. She is the daughter of Margaret May and Jesse J. McGuire. Rebecca married Benjamin Franklin Hamilton on October 19, 1883 in Morgan Co. Ben and Rebecca are buried in the Hamilton Cemetery (at one time known as the Ben Franklin Hamilton Cemetery) in Silverhill. I have a picture of their tombstone if anyone is interested. (For a complete listing of everyone that is buried in the Hamilton Cemetery, here is a quick link off of the Morgan Co. website. <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~kymorgan/HamiltonCem.html">Hamilton Cemetery </A> Deanna Levito Morgan CC Surnames: Burchett, Cantrell, Fyffe, Hamilton, Keeton, Lemaster, and Pennington

    3. Forgive the cross posting. I hope someone can help me. Lewis is not a surname for me (yet <G>) but it is a surname allied to my Browns and Van Hooses. While looking for the Bryans/Rectors/Van Hooses I found a recrod in Farquier Co Va as follows: page 204-205 PETER HITT <HITE?> (Inventory) Date: 24 September 1772 (also dated 22 Sept.) App'd by: Max'm. Berryman, Zacharias Lewis, Tilman Wever <sic> No total. Ret. 23 November 1772 Is this Zacharias the one and same progenitor of Eastern KY Lewis's? Peter Hitt is quite involved with the Rector family of the area and all are involved in the Van Hoose family so any ideas would be very welcome. Thanks!

If I haven't shared it with you, please let me know. Here is the interesting part, even if we don't find a Ramey connection, some of the Rameys were in the same area as the Hamiltons and Hills.
