Teri, Hmmmmm....very interesting. On the Morgan Co. Vital Records page, I do not have the 1855 births on there (as of yet.) This is a one woman show trying to add births, deaths and marriages from 1852-1910 online so it is taking so much longer then I thought. I am taking the information from the Vital Statistics by Richard Lyons Volumes 1-5 and slowing putting it online. I did have the help and permission from Mr. Lyons for a while but with his job and family obligations is time is not so free to work on this. I will however send a copy of your email to him since he did use microfilm to make these volumes. Thanks for letting us all know about it and I will keep you informed with any corrections to the 1855 births. Deanna Morgan CC
Hi, Thanks for the input. I've been there. No luck. This particular Taulbee must have been the black sheep of the family. Nobody seems to claim him! I was just looking for information on Wolf County, KY and found mention of several Taulbees. I didn't note the URL, but just imput Kentucky, Wolf County and you should pick up the information.
Hi everyone, I apologize to anyone who gets this more than once. I'm trying to cover all the bases! I'm trying to help my daughter-in-law surprise her grandma with a family tree. The family knows very little about the older generations. I'm looking for a Sam Taulbee who married Ida Rison, probably a little after 1900. Ida Rison Taulbee, was born in Estill Co., and died in Morgan Co.Ky in Aug, 1914. Sam married again to a Vernie Stacy. I'd like to find Sam's parents. I believe Ida's mother's name was Rachel (?) Rison. Father unknown right now. I've checked every Taulbee site I can find, been to the Taulbee page and posted on the Taulbee list but have not found them yet. Here's what I have on Same and Ida Rison Taulbee. Not much, but it's all I've got. Thanks for any help. Sharon, Thanks for that information. I'll be in touch if I find that Sam Taulbee might be in that book. Her family knows so little about him. I think everyone comes to Middletown from Kentucky. Probably 95 percent of the people here have roots in Ky! I know I do. And my husband, too. My family didn't get here until about 1926 though. That was my Mom's family. My Dad's were already here but they came from Germany first. take care and thanks again! Hi Norma, The book "Selections from Morgan County History - Sesquicentennial Volume" by Helen Price Stacy and Wm. Lynn Nickell lists a Sam TAULBEE among others that were coal loaders at the O&K (Ohio & Kentucky) Railroad in Cannel City. (p. 235). The railroad made its first run July 10, 1901 and its last November 1, 1933. The following TAULBEEs are also listed in the index: Ed, Edward, Emma O., Jack, Nellie, (Little) Press, Taylor, Wm. A., W.H., W.P. If you find that any of these are in the family you're researching, I'll be happy to check what information is contained pertaining to them. I noticed you're from Middletown, Ohio. My grandparents were there for at least a few years just prior to 1920. Two of my mother's older brothers were born there, one in 1918 and the other in 1919. Vivian, Are you trying to mess up my day? :) I wouldn't do this for anyone else but family! Estill Co., huh! I found Ida in the Ky Vital records. I'll send for her death certificate today. My daughter-in-law's family doesn't know much at all about the Taulbee kinfolk. Grandma was only 4 mos. old when her mother, Ida Rison Taulbee died. She was raised by a great aunt on the Rison side. She never had much contact with her father's family. That's why they don't know much about them. Thanks for the info on the birth. I don't have any idea of Samuel H. Taulbee. I did see him listed on the TAulbee page last night when I was searching around the net. Or I should say I saw "a" Samuel H. Taulbee. I'm not sure I want to get into this, but Grandma is getting way up in years and doesn't know her roots. She lives in Hazard. Thanks again! I checked the Vol II Morgan County Vital Statistics Births 1861-1910 and it seemds that your Ida Rison was born in Estill County so its back to the drawing board. Sam was apparently born Grassy Creek ( In I guess Morgan Co) ? There is a birth in there for Ida and Sam Taulbee tho. It was for Chester Taulbee 5-4-1910 City born: Cannel City Morgan County KY. Question? Who is Samuel H. Taulbee and Ellen Davis? They also had a child born in Morgan County on Feb. 28, 1893. Her name was Blanche? Are you sure you want to grow thsi tree?

This is my contribution to your Daughter-in-laws surprise with a family tree but it is up to you to put that tree together....LOL In the 1850 Morgan County census the oldest Taulbee name is the following: # 914 John Taulby age 46 (making him born 1804) in North Carolina and he was married to Nancy Hill age 46 b. NC. Here are the children still at home in 1850: William age 16 b. KY Citha? age 13 b. KY John 8 Eliza 5 James 4 Now if the Taulbee's really were born in Morgan county they came from this line most probably. Blessings! Vivian <><

Peggy, Thanks for the offer to check your information to see if anyone could prove to be a lead. Betty ELAM was the daughter of John C. (son of Gilbert and Catherine [COOLEY] ELAM) and Rebecca (COFFEE) ELAM. There children were: Elam, Benjamin Franklin, Birth : 16 May 1855 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY Elam, Henry Birth : 2 Aug 1858 Wheelrim, Morgan County, TN Elam, Amanda Jane (married Richard Menifee ELAM) Birth : 20 Dec 1860 Johnson, Morgan County, KY Elam, Tennessee "Tennie" (married Sollie Bach) Birth : 26 Jan 1884 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY Elam, Nancy Birth : 11 Oct 1866 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY Elam, Elizabeth (Betty - never married) Birth : 23 Apr 1868 Wheelrim, Morgan, KY Elam, William Taylor (married Mary PATRICK) Birth : 1867 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY Elam, Margaret Birth : 1871 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY Elam, George (married Sarah Jane PATRICK, daughter of Brice PATRICK and Martha ELAM PATRICK) Birth : 1 Oct 1873 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY Elam, Martha Birth : 12 May 1876 Wheelrim, Morgan County, KY The supposed fathers of Betty's children in order of birth are John PATRICK (father of Wardie Lee and Josephine [PATRICK] WELLS), ?? LONG (father of Bernie ELAM), ?? AMYX (father of Troy ELAM), Clayton ROSE (father of Pearl [ELAM] ANDERSON HANEY BRADLEY and possibly McCARTY thrown in there somewhere), and Preston PATRICK (father of twins Alta [PATRICK] PETRY and Elta [PATRICK] STOUT). Pearl was one who said who her father was, and the twins were seperated at a young age, with Alta being raised by Preston and his wife, and Elta was adopted by a SMITH, who had changed his last name to his mother's maiden name - it was originally RAMEY, and when he died at a young age he wanted his mother, Angeline SMITH (who had remarried to an Adam BANKS) to raise Elta. (Are you confused yet?!) Pearl had said in a letter to me in the early 1980s that Alta was the only one who was raised by her father. She also said she had never seen Wardie Lee and had only seen Josephine once. Information I've recently come across suggests Wardie claimed John and Delphia (WILLIAMS) PATRICK as his parents, so perhaps he grew up with them. My grandfather was raised at least for a while by his cousin Charlie ELAM and his wife Mary ROSE ELAM. BEtty did not raise any of the children, they apparently were "farmed out" to relatives. There seems to be a lot of PATRICKs that tied into this family, but I don't know how or if they are related to each other. Rebecca COFFEE ELAM's (Betty's mother) mother's maiden name was Peggy PATRICK, but I don't know anything about her family of birth. Hope some of these names will ring a bell. I have a question about the format: In the Death records, when the Age/Sex/Marital Status column says something like "OLD/M/S", does that mean that the Age field in the original record was blank, or does it mean that it contained the word "old"? Or would only Richard Lyons know the answer to that? // Teri

Hi Sharon, I have quite a bit of information on the Amyx line but this is new information for me. I have not heard anything about this. Maybe if you could send me more information on your Troy Elam and Betty Elam, I could find some names in my data base that may be a "lead" for you. I would be interested in also knowing of this information. A lot of my information that I have I do not have on my computer - so let me know some more names etc. Looking forward to hearing from you. Hi! I have been adding to the Morgan Co. page vital statistics from the Lyons Volumes 1-5. These will include births, deaths and marriages from 1852-1910. So far on the page is 1852 births and 1852-1855, 1861 deaths. I have been working mainly on doing this myself so it is taking more time than I thought to get it accomplished. I will keep working on adding them to the page and will keep the list updated on what is new to the page. Hi, We also just started look for the Amyx family -- it seems my gr-gr-grandmother was an Amyx from Morgan County, KY. Just starting to gather information . . . will be in touch! Is anyone researching any AMYX families in Morgan or Wolfe County? I recently found out that my grandfather - Troy ELAM, born February 8, 1896 in Wolfe County, who was the illegitmate son of Betty (Elizabeth) ELAM born April 23, 1867 in Insko, Morgan County - was fathered by an AMYX, according to information Troy's sister passed on to her niece. Betty never married, but had a total of seven children (including a set of twins) and it appears there were five different men involved. Obviously this has not been easy trying to figure out the situation and people involved, and I was grateful to get the information, but disappointed the first name was not given (or maybe not known). Does anyone have any information that might help regarding the situation, possibly know of an AMYX man that had fathered children out of wedlock or one who would have been the appropriate age? Or any suggestions on where to look for information? I'm trying hard to find out the circumstances surrounding Betty's life and any hints would be greatly appreciated. For obvious reasons, it was something my grandfather didn't talk about, and he died in 1966 when I was quite young. Betty was born in Morgan County and is buried there, but was in Wolfe County for a time, and possibly Magoffin. Sharon
