I had been paying $ 7.00 per DC and if they just didn't try hard enpough to do the search and found nothing I was still out the $ 7.00 per DC. This lady will do them for 3.00. 1. Even Death Certificates sometimes has false information.
    2. This is just to re-affirm what all of us have been saying and it bears repeating again for all the people who are just starting their search and find something that has been printed and assume it is the truth.. I had been trying to find out where my GGGrandfather had died and was buried. I finally did the Vital Stats online and decided the William McKenzie who died in 1916 just might be mine. I knew the McKenzies were from Morgan County and had migrated but wasn't sure where. Today I got the Death certificate. It is a Bitter Sweet revelation. See, both my GGgrandparents were born out of wedlock. William Augustus "Gus" McKenzie was the illigitimate so of Rebecca McKenzie and Thomas Ditymus Perry who already had a wife and children....some of them born at or near the time Rebecca had hers (she had 4 for Thomas) On the Death Certificate it says Williams parents are Thomas McKenzie from IRELAND and Rebecca Perry. The information was given by an adult son of theirs who was either protecting their memory or had been given false information?? How ironic that the names are just opposite of what they are supposed to be. One other thing is....someone at the clerks office might have thought someone transposed the names and decided to FIX it.?? Anyway, Please ..when you see ages on the census or a grave marker, don't just assume this is the truth. Sometimes it is a mistake. This information was given by Oscar McKenzie a 35 year old son of William "Gus" McKenzie and Permelia A. Brown. I just spoke a couple of days ago to one of Oscars sons and he didn't know about the illigitimacy of his GGrandparents either. Thanks to everyone in Morgan County who have helped me as well as the Bath Countians. By the way, for those who might be researching the same person, William was born May 26, 1848 Morgan County KY and died July 27, 1916 Jackson KY. To add further insult to injury they didn't even bother to put his place of burial on the certificate. It did say he was married so I now know that Permelia McKenzie is in Breathitt Co., Jackson KY someplace. If I find her burial I will most likely find Gus's. Vivian

I have just recently learned that Lucy's parents were probably William H.and Rachel Ellington Utterback. Rachel died in childbirth and Issac and Lucinda Cassitty raised her daughter Lucinda(Lucy). Rachel and Lucinda were sisters, I am writing without my notes but I believe that was right. I have also just learned of the other daughter of Rachel and Wm. Utterback named Flora Jane. We did not know that Mom's Mother had a sister. Flora Jane would have been very young when Rachel died also and I wonder who raised her. 3. Re: >Is there anyone on this list researching the HALLs of Morgan County, KY? I >would like to identify the parents of Martha Jane Hall who was born Feb 1851 >and married John William CASSITY c.1870 in Morgan County, KY. Linda, It isn't an exact fit, but I show Adeline HALL, b. ca 1848 Morgan Co, dau of Jacob HALL & Nancy BROWN, married about 29 Dec 1868 John W. CASSITY, son of Isaac E. CASSITY & Lucinda ELLINGTON. Morgan Co. marriage book A records license issued on 29 Dec 1868 for J. W. Cassity and Adeline Hall, no return. Adeline apparently died in childbirth in late 1869 or early 1870, because her husband and a 6-month-old daughter are living with her parents in the 1870 census, but she is not. Adeline had a younger sister Martha born about 1849 whom I do not show any marriage information for. Since John W. Cassity was living with the Jacob HALL family in 1870, and Martha was still single at that time, it is quite possible that he married his late wife's sister shortly after the census was taken. If so, they were probably married in Rowan County, as no marriage record exists for either name in Morgan Co. in the 1870's. All Rowan Co. marriage records for the 1870's were destroyed by fire except for a few from 1878 and 1879. 1850 Census of Morgan Co., KY, records on p. 105, family #262: Jacob Hall, 44, farmer; Nancy, 39; Isaac, 19; Mary, 17; Lucinda, 15; Elizabeth, 10; John, 8; Sarah, 5; Adeline, 2; Martha, 1. All born in KY. 1860 census of Morgan Co., KY, lists family #46: Jacob Hall, 54; Nancy, 49; John, 18; Sarrah, 17; Adaline, 12; Martha, 11; Jesse, 7; Emily, 5. All born in Kentucky. 1870 Census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pine Grove Prec., p. 7/133, family #49: Jacob Hall, 62, farmer; Nancy, 58; Martha, 21; Jesse, 16; Emily, 14; Nancy Pettit, 8; Lucinda Coggswell, 30, domestic servant; Lucinda Coggswell, 10/12, b. Aug; Wm Cassidy, 25, farm laborer; Frances Cassidy, 6/12, b. Nov. All born in KY. (The older Lucinda Cogswell is Jacob & Nancy's daughter, who married Samuel Cogswell on 1 Sep 1852. Nancy Pettit is the daughter of Benjamin Pettit and Polly Ann Hall, which would make her a granddaughter of Jacob & Nancy. Judging by the birth dates of Benjamin's children, it is likely that Polly Ann died at Nancy's birth or shortly thereafter, and Benjamin did not remarry until about 1868/69, so Jacob & Nancy raised Polly's baby. Frances Cassidy is almost certainly the daughter of Jacob and Nancy's daughter Adeline, who married John William Cassity in Dec 1868.) Is this a possible fit? What is your source for the Feb 1851 birthdate? If it is the 1900 census, the birthdates on that one are very flaky. Incidentally, I've been updating the Rowan County web site this past week, and added a list of links to family pages. Your Cassity/Cassidy Family Association page is on the list. See: http://www.best.com/~tpettit/rowan/rowanref.html about 2/3 the way down the page. (I also stole the animated "New" sticker from your page, hope you don't mind. I figured it was probably clip art that you found somewhere.) // Teri Pettit

    3. Mary, I have John and Squire listed in the 1840 Census. I havent looked up Jacop or Peter. I dont live close by a Federal Bldg. any more to search the census. Our Lewis family first came from Tazwell Co. Va, before going to Kty. Harmon who is Squire's brother is my great-great grandfather, they moved to Morgan Co. and purchased land there. 3. Harmon Lewis who is a brother to Squire is my great grandfather. I've been looking for thier parents. Its been said in the family it was John Lewis. There was a John Lewis and Squire in Floyd Co. in the Daniel's Creek area. My mom remembers the family talking about a Jacop also. There was a Jacop in Daniel's Creek. I found a John, Squire and Pete owning land together in Daniel's Creek. I don't know who Peter is either, maybe another brother. I know who Squire married, Kathleen Sullivan and have that info. Of course, those might be the two cemeteries that Diane found, in which case maybe the stones for John C. and Nancy Ferguson are missing. But this Nickell Fork is not real close to Grassy Creek (about 5 miles southwest), so she may have not been looking in that area.
