I am just wondering how many on this list follows the tradition of eating cabbage on the first day of a New Year? Also, for all of those wonderful cooks out there...feel free to share any yummy cabbage recipes ...after all this is keeping with tradition! Ann Lemaster-Applegate Listowner

Hi Ann and fellow Morgan Countians, Happy New Year 2000!!! I grew up in Perry County, KY but all of my mother's people's roots were in Morgan Co. and we always had sour Kraut and pork in some fashion for the New Year's dinner. My favorite feast for the New year is Cabbage Roll Casserole and Mashed Potatoes. Carol Staten

Hello All! I just wanted to send my wishes for a very Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy 2000! I am officially off of the computer until the day after Christmas to tend to those little things needing my attention before Santa arrives: Baking cookies, wrapping the last minute gifts, preparing my big supper, and spending time with my 3 little boys and husband, our family and friends. Don't forget to dig up some roots on your family tree during the holidays with your family. What a perfect time to do so. Enjoy, Deanna Levito, Morgan CC

Bette Jo, Sorry to hear about your mother . . . I know this will be a difficult holiday for you and your family. I noticed in your note the name "Oldfield". We just learned that one of my mother-in-law's aunts (or possibly great-aunts) married an Oldfield from Hazel Green (Morgan County). We're not really sure if she was a "Lykins", "Allen", "Oney", or "Amyx" -- it just depends on who my mother-in-law was referring to. She's now 83 and sometimes a little forgetful. (My mother-in-law is George Mae Lykins Ross originally from Morgan County.) Would you have any information to help us make the connection? We'd certainly be grateful for any clues!
