Patricia, I have been following your map project and am very impressed at the amount of time you must have spent on this. Thank you for your dedication to help others seeking info for their family roots in Mongtomery County. I have had a bit of trouble finding your specific site at webshots.com. Can you possibly copy and paste the exact address for your map photos? I searched for Mt. Sterling map, Montgomery County, and your name, and did not see a reverence in the search results to your maps in the first 2 pages of results. I do not have access to DSL in my area and the search is quite slow. My family names in the Mt. Sterling and Camargo area are Willoughby and Barnett. It would be wonderful to see their land sites online! Cousins, My house is a mess but the scans of the 1879 map of Montgomery County KY are all done & parked at webshots.com, in 2 different albums. There's one specific album for the enlargments of Mount Sterling, and the other album contains the county map, lists of advertisers, and the enlargements of the towns of Camargo, Jeffersonville, etc. (You're also welcome to look at my albums of old photos and my container garden after the 17 year cicadas hit town). You can also download any of the photos/ scans according to the webshots policies. What would make this project complete is if a whole bunch of people would volunteer to take one or two scans and record all of the names, features (creeks, railroads, named roads, etc.) & locations mentioned in that particular scan. I could compile them, alphabetize, and then put up a directory of everything in the map. Then, 2 weeks or 20 years from now, someone looking for cousin Elmer in Mt Sterling will be able to look at the list, match up with the correct scan and voila! If you want to work on this, please check with me about which scan or scans you'd like to do so that we don't end up with 32 people all doing scan E5! Thanks, Pat H. ==== KYMONTGO Mailing List ==== Post the Bible records of your Montgomery County, Kentucky ancestors (and surrounding areas). Our ancestors moved around the counties much like we do today, only taking a slower method - covered wagons & horses.
Hi, Sharon, There are a ton of Willoughbys in Range 30 of the county map. Try this link directly for that scan: http://client.webshots.com/photo/264617304/275895664ekthCi I don't see any Willoughbys listed on the town of Camargo scan, but it was also a district so they might be anywhere on the east side of the county map. I'll keep looking for you. Let me know, please, if the link works or doesn't work.
