He also ran a sawmill in Indiana and Iowa. George Wills and Sarah Jane Moore Wills left Iowa on 4/4/1846 by ox team. George was the Team leader of covered the Oskaloosa Wagon Train. While traveling across the country, the Oskaloosa Train came across another wagon train that had lost most of their mules to the Indians. The Oskaloosa folks split their mule teams with the other train. It was very slow going, but both wagon trains made it safely to the Portland, OR area. In 1858, George and Sarah w/son David and daughter Jemima J. Wills Wheeler and her husband, Jacob Wheeler moved to Oysterville, Washington. In 1860 George owned 180 acres of land in Oysterville and harvested Oysters. On 7/2/1860, George was Superintendent of Schools in Oysterville, Washington. Prior to 1870, family left Osyterville, WA to return to Willsburg, Oregon. In LDS files, he is listed as George Jacob Elder Wills and is shown as being born on October 7 , 1801. There is no documented proof that Jacob was his middle name. Any assistance with this brick wall would be greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas to all! I need to go now and write down the Willoughby's everyone has posted so I can see if I have anything on any of them. They lived all around my Strange family in south-eastern Montgomery County...............in fact, according to an old map I have showing people that lived there, the entire area was Willoughbys! The information that I have is: William Riley Holley, born in Montgomery CO, KY in 1803. I have been told that his father was Nathaniel Holley and later, the names of Joshua Holley and Benjamin Holley have surfaced as the probably father. I have heard there were some siblings, but I have nothing other than the name of William Riley to go on. William Riley Holley married Elizabeth "Betsy" Johnston in the period of 1824 to 1826. The family later moved to Macoupin CO, IL and are buried in Macoupin CO. I am ardently searching ANY info on Hardin Willoughby who has evaded me for 15 years. Hardin Willoughby was born abt 1822/1823 in Mt Sterling. He married SEVERAL times but that which relates to my line was his 3rd (of 4) marriage Dec. 15, 1859 in Meade Ky to Eliza Snelling. Witnesses at the marriage were : james Willoughby, Anselm Snelling & Martha Powell with the bond by WIlliam Snelling (I presume her father?). I THINK Hardin was the son of WIlliam WIlloghby and Pheba Hutson. Also searching for info on SNELLING and HUTSON of Montgomery Co.
