Dear Mary, Although I am very partial to Jeanne's UFO theory :-) I know about family disappearing in Montgomery county! I'd be happy to snoop around a bit for you. Do you have any of Thelma Dunn's Montgomery county books? I have several, but what I really need are the tax books or the actual marriage bonds. What place names do you have associated with your Coopers? There are about 20-25 Coopers buried in Machpelah cemetery in Mt. Sterling, but unfortunately the records for Machpelah were destroyed in a fire. I can certainly scan the pages with Coopers & send them on to you. Also, have you checked the US GenWeb sites for the western counties of Virginia? I've had family that went from Scott Co. VA to Lee Co. VA to someplace in Tennessee, & from there to Montgomery Co KY. Why--- I have no idea. Also, do you have any deeds associated with the Coopers. When I finally got over my fear of courthouses, I found that Mt. Sterling has a wonderfully easy alphabetical directory to deeds, which led to copies of the actual deeds, which were full of juicy information! Let me know-- if you know-- specifically what info you'd like--- tax records, marriage bond info, whatever. If I can get my hands on it I'll be happy to scan it for you.
