There are many Cemetery listings for Montgomery Co. in the Library including Machpelah. It is a very large listing for Machpelah. It includes the old and new part. I know nothing about a fire. The Library also has deeds, court dealings (which may be easier to look up at the court house on their computer) and newspaper dating back to the 1800's on film. Faye Turner

Machpelah Cemetery is owned and operated by Watson Lodge #32, International Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF). During to 1960s, the records of the lodge (including the cemetery) were completely destroyed when the lodge building burned. Some of those records have been reconstructed to allow continued operation of the cemetery, but most data has been lost forever. The reconstruction does include a plat map of the older side of the cemetery indicating the owners of the various plots (but no record of who is buried in those plots unless they were single grave plots). There have been efforts to completely document the cemetery. The largest of these efforts was that by Mrs. Hazel M. Boyd who compiled the information. Other have done smaller parts of Machpelah and have published their efforts on the Internet. Mrs. Boyd died recently and her records were left to the Montgomery County Historical Society (which I believe has placed a copy in the local library as noted above). Also I believe a copy (maybe only partial) of her cemetery project is in the Library of the Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort.
