    3. Regarding your first question. It's my understanding that Kentucky state death records begin in 1911. I imagine the official state birth certificates begin about the same time. And I think everybody knows that the Montgomery Co. marriage records burned in the Civil War. The best substitute is the record kept of weddings performed by ministers in the area. I can offer some information on Van Thompson. He was born about 1815 and died between 1892 and 1900. The wife I know about was Mary Maria Wood who was born about 1822 and died between 1865 and 1868. They married about 1838. I have names of 11 children: Margaret, George, Mary, Sarah, Caroline, Louisa, Frank, Adelia, Emma, Eva, and Van Jr. Mary died so much earlier than Van, there could well have been another wife. Although my notes say that Emma was the old maid who kept house for her father. They lived near the community of Judy, half way between Mt. Sterling and Sharpsburg on Ky. St. Rt. 11. Did you know there is a Van Thompson Rd. in northern Montgomery Co.? I've looked at a few of the censuses, but additional information I have is from several letters from Margaret to her cousin Mattie Taylor in Gallatin Co. Ky. I have more information on the Wood family if you are interested.
