Where would I go to find tax records of farmers living near Mt Sterling 1805-1820? Specifically looking for tax records of Isaiah Slaven (Slavin) and his sons. Also I have run into a book that keeps poping up in the FHC on-line library cataloge. Anybody used it? Is it extensive or just jotted down notes or what? Would appreciate any info. "Kentucky records, early wills and marriages, copied from court house records by regents, historians and the state historian : old Bible records, tombstone inscriptions, records from Barren, Bath, Bourbon, Clark, Daviess, Fayette, Harrison, Jessamine, Lincoln, Madison, Mason, Montgomery, Nelson, Nicholas, Ohio, Scott, and Shelby counties" by Ardery, Julia Hoge Spencer, b. 1889
Dear E, According to my "kentucky bible," Kentucky Ancestry by Roseann Reinemuth Hogan, there are Montgomery County tax books on microfilm at 2 places: the Kentucky Historical Society has 1797- 1875, and the Kentucky Department of Library & Archives has various records from 1797 to 1892. You may also be able to get these microfilms from your local Family History Center. Good luck with your search. Let me know if you run into any Spears or Flacks! In response to the query for the Montgomery County Tax Records, or any county's tax records for that matter: Montgomery Co, KY tax records are available through the LDS on film. I have looked at them myself last year. 1) Go to the following Web Site: http://www.familysearch.org/ --click on Library, then click on Family History Library Catalog --click on Place search --in the "place" box, enter "Montgomery", click on Search --select Kentucky, Montgomery from the list --click on Taxation from the list --click on "Tax books, 1797-1875 Montgomery County (Kentucky). Tax Assessor" --a description screen appears, click on View Film Notes (upper right) --a table appears showing that the Tax books for 1797, 1799-1812 are on film number 8168 --Tax books 1813-1827, 1829-1831 are on film number 8169 2) Go to your nearest LDS Family History Center (you do not need to be a member of the LDS chruch) --ask for a film ordering form and fill it out --it will cost about $3.75 per film; the films will arrive in about 3-4 weeks; they will stay at that center for one month at which time you may renew them for another month --use the film readers and copiers--use of the center is at no cost, but copies are moderately priced. They will assist you if you need help. Ron Grabyan E wrote: > Where would I go to find tax records of farmers living near Mt Sterling > 1805-1820?
