My GG grandfather John Charles DeForrest was born 1830 in Louisville, KY. I believe he was orphaned at an early age. Census records say his father was born in PA. I was able to find one and only one DeForest in KY for the 1830 census. William DeForest. He was also listed in the Louisville City Directory of 1832. Steamboat pilot. Dangerous. "Peruvian" exploded in 1833 killing all crew and passengers. The William DeForest family included 5 daughters in 1830 and they show up in Mt. Sterling, KY for the 1840 census. Mary DeForest was head of the household. Does your book include any references to DeForests? Thanks for your help.
