Hello Posters, Glad to see so much interest in the map, it is a very nice one. I would like to open the subject of RUSSELL in Montgomery county. I mentioned earlier that we had a Dr. Shelton Russell. I suppose his line comes from VA like so many others in the area. And looking at a film of birth records for the his time and out area, I find him deliveriing a lot of babies. I am stumped when I try to do research for his line, in that no one else seems to connect to him. So, I would like to ask if anyone on this board knows anything at all about him, or the surname for the county. I do find him on a few census, but thats about it. I have his daughter Sarah (Sally) born about 1840 and marrying George Cockrell and having their first son in 1856, in Montgomery county. I have done fairly well on the Cockrell line, but the RUSSELLS discourage me. So, any clues somebody can toss out to me? What a hoot! I think I thought of the same things you did. I won't mention what I wondered about "Toll Ho". Lynn, I'm sorry to confess that my proofreading has its limits-- especially after midnight---- but I forgot to include the names from D3. I'll post them separately tomorrow. And I'm working on the county map, too, & will post it ASAP. I agree with you: I love maps. And the 19th century ones are so interesting. I finally figured out that "B.S.Sh." stands for black smith shop. I won't include all the things I thought of before that. Hi Lynn, Pat posted the info and the names list is only of Mt. Sterling city so far. The map is great, isn't it? Nice work, can't even guess how much work was involved. What a great job and thing to do. I've learned that the prayer I say most often is, "Lord, please keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand Over My Mouth." I asked Mom if I was a gifted child... she said they certainly wouldn't have paid for me. James H. Hi, Folks, I'm about to send a "test run" of letters A thru D of the alphabetical list of names for the 1879 Mt. Sterling map found on my webshots site. If the formatting survives, I'll mail the remainder of the list tonight. Each name will be followed by a letter & number that applies to the red grids pictured at the front of the Mt. Sterling map. I'm still working on collecting & alphabetizing the names for the Montgomery county map found at the same site (different album). Those names will be followed by a Range number. If a name appears more than once in a certain grid, I listed it as many times as it appeared. There were some names that I could not make out no matter how much I enlarged, rotated, or cussed! Good luck on finding some cousins! Pat Hobson
