Thanks Edie, I will be careful. Ruth and I have become good friends and I know she meant no harm. As I said, she has been through a very rough few years and the website has not been a priority for her in a very long time as her husband was sick for a long time before he passed a few years ago and then her son on Thanksgiving Day 2005. All the info that I have regarding my line has been verified and I have documents proving the lineage. The second website I posted to the our forum is not Ruth's nor anyone associated with Ruth. We do not know the fellow, nor has he returned our emails so we are not using his info at all. It would be nice to find Frederick's father but Ruth was the one that cautioned me not to proceed on a website alone (even her own). :-) I'm not very experienced but I will always take the advice of those of you who are and will not add something to my own research until it has been proven. Thanks for your wise counsel!! :-) Traci On 1/2/06, Edie Suttle <jsattle9@fuse.net> wrote: > > Hi Tracy, > > Please be careful when you use this site for research on your Wills > family lines. I AM RESEARCHING HAGGARDS, HANKS AND KINDRED IN MID-1800'S AND EARLY 1900'S.
Hi Tracy, Please be careful when you use this site for research on your Wills family lines. This site is a compilation of many peoples work, with very few of those people being sited as the source of Ruth's work. This is not all of the work of one person, but many. Also there are many errors on this site in regards to my own family research which is on this site and of course no mention that it is my research. I have asked many times for this to be corrected on Ruth Wills site, but have yet seen any changes. There is also much work of the late O. T. Wills listed on this site and no mention that the work came from him. Please beware when using these two sites that belong to Ruth Wills for research. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/w/i/l/Ruth-Wills/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-0111.html http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rwills53/0b/t0b5e.htm Regards, Edie Suttle, jsattle9@fuse.net TS Wills wrote: >Hi Again Marilyn, > >I was just thinking if you haven't been in touch with Ruth Wills as of yet, >you may want to. Seeking info on WILLS, George, b. 10/1/1801 in Montgomery Co, KY; d. 3/22/1888 in Willsburg, OR. Married MOORE, Sarah Jane on 4/21/1821 in Bath Co, KY. He also ran a sawmill in Indiana and Iowa. George Wills and Sarah Jane Moore Wills left Iowa on 4/4/1846 by ox team. George was the Team leader of covered the Oskaloosa Wagon Train. While traveling across the country, the Oskaloosa Train came across another wagon train that had lost most of their mules to the Indians. The Oskaloosa folks split their mule teams with the other train. It was very slow going, but both wagon trains made it safely to the Portland, OR area. In 1858, George and Sarah w/son David and daughter Jemima J. Wills Wheeler and her husband, Jacob Wheeler moved to Oysterville, Washington. In 1860 George owned 180 acres of land in Oysterville and harvested Oysters. On 7/2/1860, George was Superintendent of Schools in Oysterville, Washington. Prior to 1870, family left Osyterville, WA to return to Willsburg, Oregon. In LDS files, he is listed as George Jacob Elder Wills and is shown as being born on October 7 , 1801. There is no documented proof that Jacob was his middle name. Any assistance with this brick wall would be greatly appreciated. Lois in Auburn, CA
This is a brief summary of my interest in Montgomery County, Kentucky Around 1791, Henry Cooper and his family make the journey to Montgomery County from Berkeley County, Virginia. Henry purchases land near the Greenbrier Reservoir area south of Mt. Sterling. Apparently he and his family have some influence in this county. Rev. Howe mentions this family several times in his travels through the area. Henry was born 1760 in Virginia and died 1820 in Montgomery County, KY. Henry's father was John Adam Cooper who died May 1778 in Berkeley County, Virginia. Henry's mother was Elizabeth Strupe. The point of concern here is the change of surname either with his father or grandfather. Apparently sometime prior to 1756, the Cooper name was Keiffer/Kuffer or other spellings similar. I have not been able to isolate a particular Keiffer to link my ancestry. DNA has helped some, but the data base is still too small. I have a good data base on Henry and his children as well as his brother George who is 10 years younger (wife's name is Mary ? - ! no children). Henry Also has a sister in the area named Elizabeth who marries a Smith (2 children). Henry's children married into the Merritt, Myers, Orr, James, Walker, Motley and Weagle families, but I have yet to learn anything about the Coopers through these marriage connections. By 1850, Henry's descendants have pretty well left Montgomery County, yet some 30 years later, a descendant reappears in Montgomery County buying some land either on or near the original home place. However, again, I have not been able to learn more about Henry or his father or his grandfather from any of these individuals. If anyone ever encounters any information on this Cooper family, I would be happy to hear about it.

I have among some old family notes information that the Webb line from which my 2-gr-grandmother, Lucinda Hensley Sammons's mother belonged had a big family reunion somewhere near Mt.Sterling in the early 1900's. Anyone have any ideas about what Webb family that might have been or how I might go about researching the actual event? marsha in WV
Another year is coming to a close. On this last day of the year 2005 there are 42 digest members and 142 list members for the Montgomery Co KY List. There must be some common links there between all of us somewhere! Let's all take a moment sometime in the next week to write out a brief summary of the families that we are researching in the Montgomery County KY area (and the surrounding counties....we all know there were family links into those as well) and tell who we are stumped by. State the various sources that you have looked up and your thoughts for future research and that mysterious ancestor / family. There has been a lot of information shared on this list (and many others) in past years. People willingly share whatever information that they have - whether on their family or someone else's. Wonderful tips and suggestions pour over our computer screens on a daily basis. History and memories shared between all of us on the list - the common bond we all share is the delight in those glimpses of our own history as well as the historic moments that have affected our ancestors. Roll calls are too brief and only gives the surname. Instead of a roll call - put out the information of the historic families that lived and breathed in Montgomery County KY. Bring those people back to life with the written word. Tell the family stories that you know about. It will be retained in the archives for future researchers to pull that information up and do their own research and perhaps find documentation to share with others that hasn't been discovered yet. I wish each of you health, happiness, and prosperity for all of the new year 2006! Robbin, List Admin for Montgomery Co KY List
Probably not related but I knew a Dennis Shortridge in Florida and he later moved to S. Carolina. I've learned that the prayer I say most often is, "Lord, please keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand Over My Mouth." Hi Barbara, First, I am not related in any way, but have been doing some cesus digging & I have come up with 2 "Rose Emma Wills". One is listed in the 1870 Morgan Co., Ky census, Cordelia 43,Stephen 17, Amanda 10, Rose 6 & Andrew 1. Then in the 1880 Montgomery Co.,Ky census, taken on 6/15/1880, Nelson Wills, 38,Ann, wife 42, Allisonson,6 and ROSE E.,15 sister. Nelson is a son of Shelton & Cordelia Wills. But also in the 1880 Montgomery Co., Ky census taken on 6/05/1880 is Stephen Wills 27,wife Anna 28,Laurie 6, Emma J., 3, Mary A., 1 and listed right below is Cordelia Wills, 46 mother and Rose, 1, grand daughter. One of the family histories on ancestry .com has the parents of Henry RC Greenwade as Henry Robert Greenwade, born 10/11/1830 Mpnt.Co., Ky, died 1/20/1887 Mont Co., Ky and Emily Wills, born 2/26/1831 Menifee Co.,Ky died 9/15/1881 Montgomery Co.,Ky. As Amanda was listed as being 10 in the 1870 census, she possibly could have been born after the census was taken in 1860 and that would explain her absence from that census. Don't mean to confuse you with this, but wanted to let you know what I found. A family researcher, Sharon ============================================================ From: "Barbara I. Are you all beginning to think we need a special list just for descendants of Frederick William Wills? <grin> I'm only partly kidding. Hi Again Marilyn, I was just thinking if you haven't been in touch with Ruth Wills as of yet, you may want to. She lost her husband (the actual Wills descendant) about 3 years ago so hasn't done a lot of research lately and then lost her son on this past Thanksgiving Day but my interest has inspired her to get back to it some.
