Most of us here are -- including me. I can't tell you much about James Howard as I have not really done any research on him. On the other hand, I can tell you about his third wife, Rhoda Ward. She was also married three times. Her first husband was Jesse DeBoard (DeBard) by whom she had four children. He died about 1820 and she married Henry Suttle by whom she had two children (twins). Henry Suttle died about May 1826 and she married James Howard on 5 Apr 1831. He died on 14 Oct 1835 and I guess that Rhoda gave up as she never married again. She died on 15 Nov 1885 at the tender young age of 118 !!! The evidence available (not a lot) backs up that age. I do have that James Howard had a daughter, Sarah by Martha Frame and that Sarah married Abel Morgan, son of Ralph Morgan of Morgan's Station fame. Sarah and Abel had five children, I believe. I suspect that James had other children, but other than Sarah, I have no information. 3. I forgot to put in the subject line...sorry I hope someone can shed some light on this for me. Is there a reason why someone would be listed 2X in a census? My great grandmother is listed 2X in the 1910 census for Montgomery Co. Once with her parents, and then with her grandparents. The date of the cenus' are 3 days apart. At the time, the homes were fairly close together, so I can assume she was visiting, but why list her as part of the household? Just ignorance or confusion about the census? Thanks in advance for any help... ==== KYMONTGO Mailing List ==== Posting Montgomery Co., KY miscellaneous information to the list will help everyone, and will be retained on the Rootsweb archives for later researchers to retrieve.

    1. Montgomery County connections
    2. William Bonner
    3. I'm currently trying to find out which Williams that Nancy Taylor married, about 1800-1802, probably in Montgomery County, near Grassy Lick. Most likely it was a John Williams, since there were some 3 in the 1810 census, and only 2 in the 1820, and Nancy Williams shows up as the head of household, with a whole passel of kids. Nancy was the daughter of Joseph Taylor and Mary Hathaway Badger Taylor (later Nelson). She was born about 1781 and probably died by 1849 or so. She may well be the older woman in Oliver Badger Williams' family (her son) in the 1840 census. I'll try to append a few things that I do know about her by cutting and pasting from a three generation sheet. If anyone has any information, then I'll be glad to share extensively with family group sheets. Spouse: Nancy TAYLOR Birth: abt 1781, Red Stone Fort, PA Death: aft 1849, ,Montgomery, Kentucky Father: Joseph TAYLOR (-<1784) Mother: Mary HATHAWAY "Polly" (1758-1836) Marr: bef 18032 Children: William N. (~1803-1827) Oliver Badger (1807-1871) Nancy (1808-1874) David (1809-1851) Elizabeth (1810-1835) Margaret (1813-1854) 1.1 William N. WILLIAMS3 ---------------------------------------- Birth: abt 1803, ,Montgomery, Kentucky Death: 25 Jun 1827, ,Montgomery, Kentucky4 Burial: Hathaway Cemetery, Montgomery, Kentucky5 Items of his estate were purchased by such people as William Allen, James Simpson, Enoch S. Wren, Phillip Hathaway, both Sr., and Jr., John Williams, Charles Bridges, Homer? Higgins, Thomas Regan, Wm. Bridges, Wm. Bradshaw, Thomas Higgins, Oliver Williams (1 tea kettle, Glue pot, and auger for 37 1/2 cents, ane one silver watch for $9 and 6 1/2 cents). Also David Riggs, L.C. Priest, S. Grain or Crain, James Miller, John H. Goodbar, Robert Boyd, Judith Williams (1 washing tub for 91 1/4 cents and 1 Bay horse for $55, and 1 bed and bedding and other articles for $40.00), John Williams (12 acres of corn, more or less for $45.00). Appraisement of the total estate was $468.62 1/2. by Phillip Hathaway, Administrator of the estate, executed on 13 July 1827. The fact that he was buried in the Hathaway cemetery adds credence to the close connection of the Williams and Hathaway families, and that Mariah Allen Hathaway might also have been buried there. Spouse: Judith Ball JAMESON3 Birth: 24 Sep 18083 Father: Thomas JAMESON III (1783-1819) Mother: Sarah SMITH (1786-) Marr: 10 Aug 1826, ,Montgomery, Kentucky3,6 1.2a Oliver Badger WILLIAMS* ---------------------------------------- Birth: 18 Oct 1807, Montgomery, Kentucky7 Death: 4 Feb 1871, Bainbridge, Putnam, Indiana7 Burial: 4 miles west of Bainbridge, Putnam, Indiana Occ: Farmer Reli: Christian Church, Disciples This Williams lived near Mt. Sterling, Kentucky and had quite a number of children, including George Nicholas, Daniel Boone, Oliver, Joe, etc. This is the same Oliver B. Williams, age 64, Farmer with $5,000 in realty and $900 in personalty, born in Kentucky, at page 237, Putnam County, Indiana, 1870 Census. (Page No. 20 of Russel Twp. 11 July 1870, Line 7, Family & Dwg 143). If so, then Daniel Boone and George Nicholas Williams had already left home. Query: Letter dated June 24, 1991, from Kentucky Historical Society seems to suggest the possibility of a relationship of a Nancy Nelson or Taylor, who married a Williams, to one Oliver Badger--her halfbrother? If so, it might be reasonable to expect her to name a child after her brother. Therefore, Oliver Badger Williams.? Also see 1860 Census, Montgomery County, Mt. Sterling P.O., Kentucky, p. 273, fam & dwg. 552, line 13, June, 1860, Wm. Ragan, Ass't Marshall, where Oliver Williams is listed as age 55, farmer with $1,400 in personalty, born in KY. Also listed are George N. Williams, age 19, Sarah A., age 17, Dan'l B., age 14, Margaret C., age 12, and David G.(Oliver?) Williams, age 6--born in Indiana. Wife Maria had died prior to 1860 census. See 1850 Census, District 1, Montgomery County, Kentucky, p. 29, line 19, where Oliver B. is listed as age 44, a farmer, with $1600 in realty. Also his wife Maria, and list of children, John W., age 14, Joseph G., age 12, George N., age 10, Sarah A., age 7, Daniel B., age 5, Margaret C., age 2. A letter from Vera Marguerite Williams on November 10, 1990, confirmed this was the correct Oliver B. Williams. "Recollections of Conversations with our father (Daniel Boone Williams) would say Oliver B. Williams and Marie were father and mother of Joseph G., George Nicholas, Sarah A., Daniel Boone, Margaret C., and Oliver D. . . Oliver B. Williams had to leave the family and went into Indiana due to some statements he made in regard to the War. " "We have no recollection of John B. [sic] Williams." An Oliver Williams first shows up on the 1837 Montgomery County, KY tax rolls at page 44, showing he was 1 white male over 21, no slaves, but had 4 horses worth $320.00. He owned no real property. The 1838 tax rolls, also at page 44, show Oliver B, with no realty, 1 voter, 5 horses worth $325, a wheeled carriage worth $75.00, and the amount over $300, exclusive of property listed was $1,300.00. Total value except Studs, Horses and Jacks was $1,700.00. There was no 1839 tax roll surviving. 1840 tax rolls, p. 29, shows Oliver Williams with land at taxed at $50.00 on Hinkeston water course; the value of the tract was $2,250. 1 white male over 21; 1 slave, worth $300, 8 horses and mares worth $320; 6 cattle, worth $30.00; total value, $2,900.00. He shows up in succeeding years at least until after 1850, with more slaves, real property and children listed. In 1841, p. 31, he had land on Somersett watercourse, worth $15,050. In 1842, p. 35, land on Grassy Lick; 1843, p. 33.;1844, p. 33, Hinkeston watercourse; 1845, p. 36, Hinkeston Watercourse; 1846, p. 37; 1847, p. 34.; 1848, p. 35.; 1849, p. 39, Oliver B. had land on Grassy Lick; 1850, p. 39, he had 4 children between 5-16. I have not tracked all the later years until he sold his property (about 1853 or 1854). Deed records show that he was living in Putnam County, Indiana when he sold property in 1864 that had been in the estate of William Allen, father of the late Maria or Mariah Allen. According to the Index of 1830 Census in Kentucky Historical Society, Frankfort, there is an Oliver Williams on p. 6 of Montgomery County, Kentucky. Oliver is listed as head of household, with two males 20-30, one female 15-20, and one female 40-50. Query: Had the older female's husband died, leaving the oldest son, Oliver as head of household? Query: Was Oliver B. born elsewhere in KY and came to Montgomery County about 1836 or 1837? (Probably not). If John W.(b.1836) is child of a prior marriage, and Oliver then married Maria Allen in 1837, that would fit nicely, with Joseph G. being born in 1838. That seems to fit Vera and Erma's listing of names in the family. 1840 Census shows Oliver in Montgomery County, KT P. 292. There is an Oliver Williams in Montgomery County in 1830 Census, p. 006. He was there as early as age 24. He probably married Maria when she was about 20, or 1834, since the first child was born in 1836, when he was about 30. The 1840 census shows 2 males, aged under 5, 2 male 20-30, 1 male aged 30 to 40. 1 female, aged 20-30, no older female, so thus Nancy Williams presumably had died or was living with another relative. The slave schedule also shows five Blacks, with the oldest, a female, being between age 20--30. 2 males under ten and 2 females under ten. On May 5, 1998, Robert Williams and I searched the 1830 Montgomery County, KY Census, p. 006. On line 1 is listed Oliver Williams, 2 males 20 to 30; 2 female 15 to 20; 1 female 40 to 50; 1 female slave age 10 to 24; 5 total in the household (not including slaves); 2 lines below is listed the William Allen household, with 1 white male age 40 to 50; 1 white female, age 10 to 15; one white female age 15 to 20; one white female, age 40 to 50; and a number of slaves. Query: are the two white males Oliver and a brother? If Oliver B. had not yet married Mariah Allen, is she the white female age 15 to 20 in her father's household? Catherine Jones Allen seems likely the white female age 40 to 50 in Allen household. The white female 40-50 in Williams household is probably a widow Williams. She could be Nancy Williams, a widow and head of household in the 1820 census. The slave schedule shows five negro slaves, with four young males under 10, 2 females under 5, and three females 5-10. On May 5, 1998, checked the Montgomery County, KY, 1820 census, line by line. Numerous Williams (including an Amos, p. 243, Robert, p. 263, and John, p. 231, and Raleigh, p. 269, 8th line), but no Oliver Williams. See William Allen entry for his data in the same census. Viewed Death Index of Putnam County 1880-1920 on May 4, 1998, at Clayton Library, Houston, and found Eliza J. Williams' death listed in 1907. No Oliver listed, thus presume that he died before 1880, when this index was started. Oliver David Williams and his wife Joanna Dickerson left, headed eventually for California about 1876, so it is logical that he left only after father Oliver B., died. (True.) Need to see if Putnam County, IN has any records dealing with mortality during those years. Try cemetery records at LaFollett cemetery in NE Russell Township (Section 2 or 12?) Also check with Church records at Old Hebron Church (now the Christian Church in Russellville?). E-mail from Edith Collins <dcollins@execpc.com> states that Oliver Badger Williams died in 1881 and is buried 4 miles west of Bainbridge, Putnam County, Indiana. (unconfirmed; it was 1871). In April, 1999, on a trip there, we met "Shorty" Williamson of Bainbridge, who runs the Bainbridge cemetery. He later called back (August) and said that he had found Oliver Badger Williams' grave in the "Farrow" cemetery, about 4 miles west of Bainbridge, along side the road. On September 6, 1999, Bill and Sue Bonner travelled from Crawfordsville south on US 231, stopping at intersection with State Highway 36. On the right hand side (west) of the road, about 1/4 mile north of the intersection are a few graves between the old road, relocated in 1931, and the new road. These are largely obliterated, but a Williamson woman's name is legible. Across to the west of the old road, just north of an old concrete bridge is the Col. E.S. Farrow family cemetery, that was established in 1867. There are perhaps a dozen graves, mostly Farrows. Under a tree towards the north and towards the back is a simple pilaster bearing the following inscription: Oliver B. Williams, died Feb 4, 1871, Aged either 63 or 68 yrs, 3 mos. Thus, from calculations, he was born in November 1802 or 1807. Since the census figures through the years seem inconsistent, I have presumed it should be 1807. After checking a website that showed inconsistent dates from the gravestone. Bill and Sue revisited on 4/7/04, confirming the earlier dates he had recorded. We also took more digital pictures of various of the gravestones for future researchers, since the fence is now down and the trailer sales firm has expanded its operations to within 15 feet of the graves. The entry stone pronouncing the place as the Col. A.S. Farrow family cemetery is askew and sliding down the incline. They were both sons of Edmund Haggard who was second son to the first Haggard to come to America, James Haggard, who left England bound for Norfolk, Va., in about 1698. James Haggard's sons were: Nathaniel, Edmund, Zachariah, and Gray (or Granville). I may be able to help, as our Haggards were all over that area, at an early day. I need more detail from you, if possible.
