    3. Dear Alan I have a Katherine Yocum (Yokum) born 21 Dec 1815 in Montgomery Co; Kentucky. Katherine married Elijah Wools in 1835, probably in Indiana where, I believe, both families migrated to around 1830. They settled in Posey, Clay Co; Indiana, where they raised a large family. Unfortunately, I do not have parents for Katherine, (hopefully, you may be able to help here) but I can supply you with a descent line and would be happy to do so. Hope to hear from you soon Judy McCutcheon 3 Ayres Court CAMBRIDGE TASMANIA AUSTRALIA 7170 Ph: 61 3 6248 4435 [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, 15 March 2002 9:33 Subject: Re: [KYMONTGO-L] Introduction by New List Owner > My name is Alan McCullough and I am researching my line starting with my 3G > GF John McCullough, Sr. born 1-1755 in Washington Co. 2. Hi, Judy - My Rachel I'm pretty sure met George Mc in Montgomery County KY when they were both children. George came to Ripley County IN in 1818 or so, and I believe made the trip to Clay County in January around 1830 - 1832. I have an exerpt taken from a statement made by one of George's cousins about the 10 inches of snow they encountered in Clay County when they arrived in their covered wagon. I also see where an orphaned child was reared by a Rev Francis Yokum in Clay County. I'd be happy to look at your line. Thanks for the help - Alan McCullough

    3. Welcome Robbin, Since a large part of Powell County was taken from 1854 Montgomery Co., I find myself searching in Mt. Sterling and this list quite often. I suspect there are Reed, Morton, and Powell families in the area at the present time. The last family I'm aware of was William Campbell & Lucinda Powell Reed, in the 1920's era. They later removed to Campbell Co., (Newport area) but I'm not sure just when. Again, welcome.

COCKRELL came from there sometime after 1880 to the San Luis Valley in Colorado. His father was William A. COCKRELL, born 1802 who was married to Sally SPRATT. Peter M. was married to Julia ANDERSON and then to Sarah Belle REDMON. Looking forward to seeing Kentucky for the first time.

    3. Good Morning, Hazel and all- Michael CARPENTER first appears in the History of Bath County(KY) as the survivor of an Indian ambush in 1788 at Stepstone. At that time Stepstone was in Bourbon County, VA, and subsequently fell in the jurisdictions of Montgomery and Bath Counties, in order. So far I have found no record of where he came from. Family lore carried to Iowa, through second son Levi's family, is that the family is of Germannic origin, and that Michael spoke German. Michael's youngest son, Harvey, used the name ZIMMERMAN on an 1830 Bath Co. land transaction. When my grandfather James Breckenridge CARPENTER died in Illinois in 1940 his obituary noted that he had ... "two brothers and two sisters living in Mount Sterling, Kentucky." I'm just lurking out here, and in other places too, hoping to find some clue to Michael's and spouse Elizabeth's origins. Bob Carpenter

    3. Good morning from IL to Harold & everyone! The folks in Chicago are getting ready to make the Chicago River Green once again for the St. Patrick's celebrations & parade. In a nutshell, Flaming is bickering back & forth (on the list for everyone to see) & acting childish. I've seen it on other lists and it is just awful. I prefer the lists that I moderate be productive, and the enjoyment for all of us. Life is just too short! One of my Montgomery Co KY familes are: Magdalene Sarah (Sally) RENICK (born 1 Oct 1798 Winchester, Clark Co. KY died 24 Mar 1854 Mt. Sterling, Montgomery Co, KY), married 2 Mar 1820 to Dillard HAZELRIGG (born 11 Jan 1799 Bourbon Co KY, died 24 Jun 1871 Mt. Sterling, KY). Looking for descendant's of their children: George (born 1 Jul 1821 Clark Co KY died Feb 1874 Montgomery Co KY), Miranda (born 4 Aug 1823 Clark Co KY), Ann (21 Feb 1825 Clark Co KY died 24 Aug 1840 KY), Emily (born 8 Oct 1826 died 10 Oct 1826 Clark Co KY), John (born 17 Jul 1828 Clark Co KY), Betsey (born 3 Jul 1830 Clark Co KY), James Dillard (born 30 Nov 1832 Clark Co KY), & Mary (born 30 Nov 1832 Clark Co KY). 3. I started doing genealogy at age 15 & some 45 years later I'm still at it. I've written two books on these MILLERs but still have many questions even after all the research I & others have done. My only claim to having an ancestor in Montgomery Co. is an 1808 deed that I found in Madison Co., where my ancestor & wife (Jacob & Priscilla MILLER) were selling Madison Co. land & the deed stated they were "of Montgomery Co., KY". Can't find them in 1810 KY census, but by 1812 they are in Estill Co. which was formed from Madison in 1808. Jacob MILLER was b. c1856 Jarmon, Augusta Co., VA Priscilla ESTES MILLER was b. 1770 Greenbrier district, Augusta Co., VA. About 1729 they moved from Estill Co., KY to Fulton Co., IL where Jacob d. about 1836. Priscilla lived to be age 90 & died in KS or MO. 3. Greetings and thank you for taking over our list! I am Marilyn Wills Rabens and I live in Elmhurst, Illinois. Both of my parents were born in Kentucky. Dad in Montgomery County and Mom in Bath Co. There are many different surnames of interest to me and my parents' family lines cross each other several times. I think I've always been interested in family history but did not get down to researching in earnest until about four years ago when we got the internet at home. Lines I am always looking for include the following : Frederick William WILLS (1742-1796)Abraham BECRAFT (1750-1811), James Hardage LANE(1735-1787) O.P. SHULTZ (1819-1899), Moses STULL(1820-1904), Jarrett MONTJOY(1785-1860), Robert DOWNS (1754-1826), William CASSITY(1750-1825), Capt. John STRODE(1728-1805), Samuel CARRINGTON(1755-1818), ???PRITCHARD/PRITCHETT ,among others. I'm excited that we will be having a family reunion in Mt.Sterling this summer and many of the Illinois cousins will be able to visit with our Kentucky cousins once again. We don't get together often enough and most, like me, still feel at home in our beloved Kentucky bluegrass and hills. Anyway, welcome aboard! Marilyn

I was born and raised in Lexington, Fayette Co., KY., but my Dad's side of the family are originally from Eastern, KY. I now reside in Wilmore, Jessamine Co., KY. I have 2 daughters, both grown (but one still lives with me), and my husband has 4 sons, all grown, too. Between the two of us, we have 4 grandchildren, 2 girls and 2 boys. Two of the grandkids still live with us...our grandson is 3 years old, and our granddaughter is 22 months. We are expecting our 5th grandchild any day now! I've been a genealogy addict for about 4 years now. My husband, Fred, and I are quite active members of the Jessamine Christian Church. I'm an interpreter for the deaf there. My Montgomery County, KY. families are ROSE, JETT, SWANGO, CENTERS, & MOORE. Again, welcome aboard! Gail (Rose) Berish
