Yes, I remember you. I will let you know if I get info from this pension. It will cost me about $40.00 I think ,and sometimes it takes 8 weeks or longer to get back. I go though his daughter, Mary Ann Garrett Phillips. Hi Janeen, I also am decended from him thru his daughter, AMELIA {MILLY} GARRETT-HALL. She m. Edward Hall in Prince Wm. Co., Va abt 1810. I don't have anything on Robert, except the above. Paul Hall
Hi, I'm kin to Garrett's in Powell and Harlan Counties. What archives did your friend check? DAR? NARA? The National Archives would most likely have the record. You will have to submit a completed NATF Form 85. After about 3 months you will receive photocopies of the entire pension file. I did this process on my Steele ancestors and was amazed at what I received: signed applications, legal docs of all sorts, depositions, etc., over 30 sheets in all. The signatures are priceless. To receive copies of military records, submit NATF Form 86. These often are only pay records and contain little or no useful information. You can order a complete file search and copy from DAR at a cost of $40 (check their web site). Seems they catalog different types of documents at different places, so there are usually several files on a person, not just one big file. I suspect the DAR does, in fact, have a copy of the documents, SOMEWHERE. You can order the NARA forms on the Internet and get them in less than a week at www.nara.gov . Hope this helps. I am looking for the parents of BARBARA A. CHARLES who married Thomas Farrow in Boone Co., IN abt 1839. Her parents came from Montgomery Co., KY I believe. Thanks, Mollie Charles Pawlik [email protected]
I believe I owe a few of you out there an apology. I posted the following message about a reunion, but had blocked my incoming email from most ISP's because of so much spam mail. So some of you who responded were unable to send your messages to me. I have since corrected the problem. And I do humbly apologize again. Here is the posting again: We are planning a reunion of the descendents of Samuel T. and Caroline Copher Hall, Samuel T. and his 2nd wife Mary Griffey Hall, Isaac and Sarah Myers Hall, and Jacob and Nancy Brown Hall. These families were all from eastern Kentucky and western West Virginia. This reunion will be held on May 18 in Miamisburg OH. If you would like further information, please contact us directly at: [email protected] or [email protected] Susan and Ken Hall
Yes, I believe that Leonard Hall went to Barren Co., Ky. His daughter, Naomi, married Anderson Harlow and he (along with some other Harlows) left VA and went to Barren Co., KY. Since they intermarried with two of my Whitsett kin from Montgomery Co., I didn't know if they might have been in that county for a time, too. I am not sure when the Whitsetts and Harlows met. I do know that later many of the Whitsetts and Harlows lived in Lafayette Co., MO. I don't know if they met in KY first or not. Joan (Whitsett) Benton
Thanks for responding, even though your Hall family may be different from mine. I thought it worth asking because you never know when an identical surname might connect! Joan (Whitsett) Benton
My ancestor, William A. COCKRELL, went to the Methodist Episcopal Church. My cousins and I are having a reunion in Mount Sterling May 17-19 and would like to go to the same church. Is the Methodist Church that is there now, the same one? Thank you. Ardelle Koperski
Looking for any african-americans living in Mt. Sterling since 1930s. A ancestor of mine by the name of Emma JOHNSON is listed as living in the area in 1934. ===== >From the Email Account of: Tim Ayers (615) 337-0210 Researching these surnames: Murphy, Wells, Johnson, Small, Jones, Stroder, Anderson, Basey and Ball (KY/OH); Ayers (MD) "Genealogy: Where you confuse the dead and irritate the living. Can any one tell me anything about Ruth McCarty Hughes who died in 1930-31. Who died in child birth. She was daughter of Maymie Dee Gray & John William McCarty. Jim
Philip Charles appears on the 1830 census, in Estill Co., with wife Fanny Powell Charles and it shows a daughter under 5 that would belong to Fanny maybe. Philip nor Fanny is on the 1840 census, does anybody know what happened to them? Fanny was born in SC, don't know where. Did she go back to SC? They married in 1827 and that is why I think the child under 5 might be Fanny's. Thanks, Mollie Charles Pawlik [email protected]
Susan, I think she was referring to the LEONARD HALL we was born in Maryland & removed to Baron Co., Ky.
Don't have a Leonard Hall in my husband's family tree, and don't know when they were first in Kentucky. We do know that his g-g-grandfather, Jacob Hall was born 1806 in Kentucky. His children were born or settled in Bath Co. KY. From there, the next generation migrated to Ohio. If you have any kinfolk from the Bath Co. area maybe we can make a connection. Susan Young Hall near Dayton OH
I don't have a Leonard Hall in my husband's family tree. I am back to 1806 for his g-g-grandfather, Jacob who was born in Kentucky. They may have come from Virginia, most everyone did, but at this point I can't say when. Susan Young Hall near Dayton OH
Joan, have been researching HALLs for some time now. Leonard HALL settled in Baron Co., Ky & most {not all} of his decendents moved west. I don't think he is ances. to the E. Ky HALLs. Mine moved from Prince William Co., VA to Powell, Menifee Montgomery co's.
I am just curious as to whether these Halls might be descended from Leonard Hall who moved from VA to KY in early 1800's? Leonard's daughter, Naomi, married Anderson Harlow. They had several children, many of whom came west in late 1800's, some settling in Lafayette Co., MO, and some coming on to Oregon. Just wondering if you know if this might be the same line........? If so, I am wondering about earlier history in VA. Joan Benton

Hi all.............I want to make sure I stay on this list. I understand you have a new leader, so we are to re-introduce ourselves. I am descended from Samuel Varner Whitsett and Maggie Tuttle who either bought or "staked out" land on Lulbegrud Creek in 1786. Their son, Joseph Whitsett, married Rebecca Stewart, daughter of Ezekiel Stewart. Their youngest, Stewart Whitsett, was my direct ancestor. Several of the Whitsetts later moved to Lafayette Co., MO. I am interested in studying Whitsetts, Stewarts, and Harlows from MO. Thanks for this service. I enjoy reading other people's posts. Joan (Whitsett) Benton
