I've notice that there was quite a migration from KY to Indiana in the 1820-1830 era. I have run into a brick wall trying to find my g-g-grandparents, Daniel Johnston and wife Polly?, both born in KY and showing up in Clinton Co, Indiana by 1830 census. Can anyone suggest a good resource or info on this migration which might give me some leads. I do note Daniel Johns(t)on's in three KY 1820 census including Montgomery Co. Thanks Rich Johnston

Mary, Is it possible that this Peggy may have gone to live with an Aunt after her mother died? In my early part of researching this family...I came into contact with someone who was looking for a Peggy Myers...this Peggy's mother had died when she was young.. Ring a bell??? Ulrich Myers came from German Township, Fayette County, PA...well at least his will did...I believe I remember a Lewis too...will email you more later...also someone responded to your msg and said their relatives named Pettit moved from Montgomery Co., KY to Clay Co., Indiana...I have a letter addressed to one of my John Myers' from Brazil, Clay Co., Indiana...you might want to look in that county...also a neighboring county...will look it up...if you do find out where Peggy went, please let me know...thanks for the info ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Rigdon" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, April 25, 2002 4:15 PM Subject: Re: [KYMONTGO-L] HOWARD'S MILL-Montgomery Co Ky > I was interested in Peggy..The people who went to Howard's Mill were from > German Township, Fayette County, PA.....we think . I am helping a young lady search for her birth siblings. It seems that hr birth mom(found by the way) had ~25 children. I am searching for the first two who are Virgil and Estill Woodard. They were born in 1944 and 1945 to Otis Woodard and Mae Mills Woodard. In 1945 Floyd Mills Mae's father murdered Otis in a family argument on a farm outside of Judy(?) in Montgomery county. Mae is the daughter of Floyd and Kelly Mills. Mae was supposedly with child when the murder happened. All these children...the last to have known to be born was in the 1970's. Mae was bornin 1928 and currently resides in Mt. Sterling. If anyone can help me please email me privately..... thanks [email protected]
Hello, Mary - You had two names in your response to Charlotte - John Sellyers Myers and Nancy Ann Petit. The names Sallyers and Petit have both married into my McCullough line and I've been wanting to track down information on Lucy Petit - my G G GM. She was born in 1832 in KY and her husband - George McCullough - was born in Montgomery County KY in 1802. He moved from KY to Clay County IN in 1832. The George and Lucy married in Clay County IN in 1869. Lucy Petit had been married previously to an Albert Long and had children by him. She became a widow, I believe - and George McCullough became a widower and they married in Indiana, each on their second marriage with children from the previous marriages. I've suspected that George McCullough knew the Petit family from Kentucky. George's father was John McCullough Sr. and Constant Kesiah Jones. Jeremiah Sallyers married one of George McCullough's sisters. Does the name Lucy Petit appear in your line anywhere? Thanks for the help - Alan McCullough
Thank you for answering me...however, I already have all that information. Also...John S. Myers' middle name is not Sellyers...That was misinterpreted on one of the legal documents...the writer wrote John SMyers in a very fancy way making it look as though it said S e l l y e r s....when it was J o h n S (in a big swirl---making it look like S e) then the M appears as though it was l l then y e r s. Thank you again for your prompt reply. I already have this information...can you tell me if you have any idea where in PA John came from?? I have a strong hint but need more factual data...thank you Mary.\ by the way...do you mind me asking who in this Myers bunch you are related to?? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Rigdon" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, April 25, 2002 9:45 AM Subject: Re: [KYMONTGO-L] HOWARD'S MILL-Montgomery Co Ky > John S. I am researching the John S. Myers family...his son's names were Walter S. Myers, Carlisle R. Myers, and John Henry Myers (my great grandfather) I think John S. Myers may be a descendent of Ulrich Myers (from Pennsylvania or Virginia...same area but at the time was claimed by both PA and VA). What Myers names were you researching??? I am sure it could help with my brick wall. Any info would be sooooo appreciated! I have a Will Howard b. 1850 in Kentucky. married to Sarah Ann Myers Dec 7, 1871. They had two children Belle and Luther. Both children died very young, Belle b. 1872 d. 1874, Luther b. 1876 d. 1882. After the death of their children they came to Oklahoma. Aunt "Sis" (as my father called her) and Uncle Will participated in the Oklahoma land run. Aunt Sis died in 1932 and they took her body back to Kentucky to be buried in the Myers family plot next to her 2 children. Uncle Will died shortly there after and was buried next to her. I think this may be a connection because the Myers homeplace is on Slate Creek and I remember something in my Myers document about a Howard Mill. Is this a connection? I am stuck in my Myers research and am looking for anything that might give me a clue. Does any of this sound familiar in your family line. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robbintina Harrison" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 22, 2002 7:27 AM Subject: [KYMONTGO-L] HOWARD'S MILL-Montgomery Co Ky > Forwarding from someone not on the list... > > >Date: Sun, 21 Apr 2002 12:08:35 -0600 > >From: Robert & Janice Blankenship <[email protected]> > >Subject: {not a subscriber} RE: [KYMONTGO-L] HOWARD'S MILL-Montgomery Co Ky > >To: [email protected] > >X-Diagnostic: Not on the accept list > > > >Hi my name is Bob Blankenship and along with my cousin Maggie Kincaid we > >have researched the Howards in Bath, Mongomery,Niholas,Fleming and > >surrounding counties. Based on the birth dates, they may have married in Montgomery County about 1800-1802. However the Marriage Records for Montgomery County were burned in 1864 during the Civil War, so that removes any possibility of proving marriages before 1864. During the 1960, the late Mrs. Hazel M. Boyd and others inventoried the Cemeteries in Montgomery County and this gives some indication of some Montgomery County marriages. This information is available from the Montgomery County Historical Society or from the library of the Kentucky Historical Society. Mrs. Boyd's papers were donated to the Montgomery County Historical Society (PO Box 861, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353) and may have more information on the Howard family. What archives did your friend check? DAR? NARA? The National Archives would most likely have the record. You will have to submit a completed NATF Form 85. After about 3 months you will receive photocopies of the entire pension file. I did this process on my Steele ancestors and was amazed at what I received: signed applications, legal docs of all sorts, depositions, etc., over 30 sheets in all. The signatures are priceless. To receive copies of military records, submit NATF Form 86. These often are only pay records and contain little or no useful information. You can order a complete file search and copy from DAR at a cost of $40 (check their web site). Seems they catalog different types of documents at different places, so there are usually several files on a person, not just one big file. I suspect the DAR does, in fact, have a copy of the documents, SOMEWHERE. You can order the NARA forms on the Internet and get them in less than a week at www.nara.gov . Hope this helps.
