Greetings to all BERTRAM, BUTRAM, BUTTRAM, BUTRUM, BUTTRUM (etc.), MARSH, and BRADLEY Descendants, Spouses and Researchers! Our biannual spring meeting of the Richard Bradley Cemetery Association in White County, Tennessee has been set for Saturday, April 25th. We will meet at the cemetery at 10 a.m. Central Daylight Time, followed by a short business meeting at a local restaurant and optional lunch with the group. The Richard Bradley Cemetery in rural White Co., Tennessee, about 8 miles from Sparta, is the burial place of our Revolutionary War soldier ancestor, William Butram (II), husband of Sara Patterson and the father of Wayne County, Kentucky's William Bertram. It is also the burial place of another Revolutionary War soldier, Henry Marsh, and the Richard Bradley family. This small historic cemetery was established in 1838. Unfortunately we were unable to meet as planned last fall. This was the first time since our initial Work Day in May 2003 to begin the reclamation of the badly deteriorated, almost forgotten cemetery that we have missed a biannual gathering. Our charter members are aging, some are now deceased. If the cemetery is to be preserved for future generations we need new people to step up to join the effort. Please help if you can. Even if you cannot attend please send money for the grounds keeping (monthly mowing and trimming) and incidental expenses. The treasury is getting low but the grass keeps growing! Contributions may be sent to: Lou Nell Bradley Montgomery, Treasurer Richard Bradley Cemetery Association 1025 Montgomery Road Sparta, Tennessee 38583 The restaurant where we will meet and eat after the visit to the cemetery is Casa Luna Italian Restaurant and Grill at 125 Churchill Drive 38583, is just off Bockman Way, the main thoroughfare; turn at the traffic light at Ed Rogers Chevy dealership onto Churchill Drive. The restaurant has a large and varied menu which includes American foods for those who do not like Italian. William Butram (15 Jul 1759 - 10 Nov 1853) was born in Rowan Co., North Carolina, lived also in Iredell Co., North Carolina, Lee County, Virginia, Wayne County, Kentucky, and finally in White County, Tennessee. He married Sarah Patterson on 29 Jan 1780 in Rowan County, North Carolina. The place of her death is believed to have been Wayne Co., Kentucky but no inscribed grave has been found. William and Sarah Butram were the parents of 13 children whose descendants have scattered across the United States. They include the William Bertram who married Nancy Stinson and is known as "The Father of the Wayne Co., Kentucky Bertrams" as well as the Willis BUTRAM/BUTTRAM who married Elisabeth ____ and whose descendants, are still in and around White County, Tennessee. The latter group spell the surname BUTTRUM because Willis Buttram had a son with lazy penmanship who did not close the a. Please let me know if you plan to join us on April 25th so we can be looking for you. If this will be your first time to visit the cemetery one of us will be glad to meet you before 10 a.m. at the courthouse square. Just let me know in time we can make arrangements with you. Feel free to write to me about the family genealogy . . . any branch and any spelling. I'll answer to the best of my ability or refer you to someone else who can. I have recorded the Bradley Cemetery and its know burials on Find-A-Grave.
