Of those in Monroe Co with ancestors from VA. Could you please respond with where in Va they came from. I am trying to track my SCOTT back to VA as said in census. An accepted train may help me to determine where he they came from. I realize in late 1700s and early 1800s we are talking of an area that just changed from all being known as VA territory to Kentucky as a state. SO the potential of them being born in KY prior to it being KY is possible. I have a JOHN SCOTT b 1817 -1818 some say father was Robert NO IDEA for sure . JOHN CORNELIUS SCOTT was my ancestor and for many years I am still spinning wheels. SusiCP
My ancestor, Abraham Hiestand, moved to Frederick (now Page) County, in 1743. About 1765, he moved to Washington County, TennesseeHe then moved to Jefferson (now Cocke) County, Tennessee and was a member of Big Pigeon Baptist Church. He then moved to Kentucky about 1798, first to Green County, and by 1800 was in Barren (now Monroe) County, Kentucky, where he joined his friend, John Mulkey and the Mill Creek Baptist Church. I found that a number of families in the Big Pigeon Baptist Church migrated to what is now Monroe County and became members of John Mulkey's church. John Mulkey is also an ancestor, but his family moved to Tennessee from South Carolina. I hope this helps. For Monroe County, KY reasearchers: My Belcher and Biggers ancestors in Monroe County arrived there is 1816 with a group of others from Franklin County, VA. They may also have lived in Patrick County, VA, where their marriage was recorded. My gggrandfather, John Belcher inlisted in the War of 1812 at the Rocky Mount courthouse in Franklin County. I got this information by writing to the Military Archives for his service record from the War of 1812. There were several papers in his file, including his widow's application for a pension after his death. On this application, she listed the date of their arrival in Monroe County. I believe they came to Monroe County as a result of his militia service where he earned a land warrent as payment. Much of Ky was made available for those who held land warrents for service in the Rev. War and also in the War of 1812.
