The only child I have for them is Samuel A. B. Carter, born 01 Aug 1853, but there certainly could have been others, and probably were. I just haven't gone down that branch. I believe Henry's father to be Joseph Adock Carter, and his mother to be Sarah Carter, daughter of Joseph Sr. Carter and Mary Bell. Sarah is a sister to my husband's Joseph Jr. Carter who had children: Cilen L. Carter b. 1825 m Selia J. M. Shaw Priscilla Carter b. 1828 who remained unmarried until at least 1870 Mary F. Carter b. 1833, and was the first wife of King Hiram Jent and Twins: Philip Penn Carter and Joseph T. "Dode" Carter born 23 Oct 1834. --- I find this interesting since Philip PENN Carter has the same middle name as several of my Henry and Frances Penn Carter's descendants used. Is Joseph Carter Sr the same as gave affidavit in Philip Carter's Rev. War Pension Application? BARREN CO KY PENSION RECORDS (Bell 1933) CARTER, Philip Pension No. S1184 Private, Va. Militia, born March 16, 1788 in Spotsylvania Co, VA. Entered service Sept. 1780 (when 14 1/2 years old) in Spotsylvania Co, VA. as substitute for Thos. Coleman. Later served as substitute for his father, for David Lively, for Richard Dillard, for Bradley Matthews, for his father, for David Lively. JOSEPH CARTER of Monroe Co, KY testifies he knew of Philip Carter serving as substitute for Thos. Coleman, Richard Dillan, Bradley Matthews, for my father John Carter and for my brother in law David Lively. I was young but the above is well recollected. Pension began March 3, 1831, certificate issued May 31, 1833. This Philip and Joseph Carter were son's of John and Susannah Carter of Spotsylvania Co VA, and John was a son of Joseph and Catherine Carter of Spotsylvania Co VA. There were a couple of Carter family intermarriages in Spotslvania Co VA which makes it complicated to determine if the Carter women were single or married to a Carter husband, who goes with which family and which were related by marriage only. Thanks Sharon Tabor

    3. My husband's ancestor, Joseph Carter b. 1800 VA had a sister, May Carter, who married David Lively. It would appear to be him that you are refering to. I have not seen that affidavit, nor ever heard of it and it is exciting to have the transcribed information. I believe that Cilen is a misspell of Chillon/Chillion, uncle to my husband's Joseph T. "Dode" Carter. It seems that they used certain names; Priscilla, Joseph, John, Chillon etc. over and over through the generations. 3. By the way, you can pick up Philip Penn Carter's middle name in the 1900 Allen County census (Puncheon Dist., of course) 191/195. The 66 year old is shown with his wife, "Virgini" with the name "Penn Carter." I may have to re-research these folks as they say they have been married for 34 years. Since the time is the same, I am assuming they were married to each other for that amount of time. So I'm not sure where Margaret Harris comes in. CARTER, PHILLIP P. Spouse: HARRIS, MARGARET J. Marriage Date: 11 Nov 1871 Co.: Monroe State: KY You can see in that 1900 census that Philip was born October 1834, his twin brother had died 3 years prior, but he had a marked grave marker in Akersville Cemetery, giving his birth date as 23 Oct 1834. >From: [email protected] >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [KYMONROE] Henry C. 3. I also have a Carter connection in Monroe Co. The sister of my ggrandfather (Richard Wheeler) was Mary Wheeler. She was married to Thomas Carter after 1840, likely in Monroe Co. I know very little about Thomas, other than he was likely born in VA or TN abt 1825. The Wheeler family moved from Greene CO TN to Monroe Co abt 1834. Thomas Carter died abt 1872 in Monroe Co. Known children: Dinah Margaret Carter b 1847 Sarah E b abt 1852 Simon T b abt 1856 Frances T b abt 1863 Thomas 1863 (twin to his sister Frances). Dinah was married to Turner Goodall England Sept 1865 in Monroe Co. The family moved around abit - McDonald Co MO, then eventually settled in Okmulgee Ok. Due to the lack of records in Monroe Co, I haven't been able to find out much else about the Carters and I haven't got any info at all about Thomas Sr's parents, siblings etc. Perhaps this will help you in some way. regards, Colleen Lill Canaa > > In a message dated 9/28/2005 12:37:20 PM Eastern Daylight Time, > [email protected] writes: > > I believe this is Henry Conway Carter who married Nancy M.
