    3. There were probably various reasons...the availability of land...the lure...the adventure, maybe even more "elbow room".You might already know this but in the older days when someone would visit someone else they'd spend the night with them because even as neighbors they lived long distances apart. That's why many times you'd see neighbors marrying each other, they didn't see many others. Also a lot of times other family members preceded them going from Tennessee to Kentucky. I don't know how many letters I've read that talk about how good the crops were here or there compared to "back home". That would encourage some in itself. In can visualize wagons traveling together for protection, stopping from time to time to rest and spend the night. I have one of my families that traveled that way (by wagon) from Virginia into Kentucky. They spent a night on the trail. A strong storm came up and blew a large tree over onto the wagon and one of our family members died, crushed by that huge tree. They experienced many hardships including the weather. -----Original Message----- From: deb <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, November 23, 2004 10:27 PM Subject: Re: [KYMONROE] Families from Washington Co, Tn >Do any of you have any idea why so many families moved from Washington Co., >Tn to Monroe Co.
