    1. [KYMONROE] Disciples of Christ Historical Society - PLEASE READ THIS RESEARCHES!
    2. Hey All, Long time since I made a post to the site, however I had to share with you this information, perhaps may help some of you out. I've "searched and searched and searched" hehe - for information on a particular relative for over a year now. Hip, hip, hooray - - finally!!! I imagine I'm not the only one with those long ago relatives that were preachers, ministers, etc. The "Disciples of Christ Historical Society" is well worth a visit to the site. The site is free (www.dishistsoc.org) but - the $20 to pay for information they will research was worth millions to me! Not only did I find out "vital information" but also where he lived, how much money he made, pictures of him, postcards to/from him, death notice, references from what people thought of him, articles/documents he had written (Thirteen Articles of Musical Talent - published 1908, Christian Standard), health history, etc. Does it show HOW EXCITED I AM ABOUT THIS? All of this for $20 bucks and like I said I wouldn't take millions for it - hehe - very serious though! This information period was 1870 to 1936. Anyway I gave the site above and here is other information on the society. 1101 19th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37212-2196 - 615-327-1444, Fax-615-327-1445. Hopefully it will bring at least a person or two the enjoyment it has me! Rick in Louisville

    1. [KYMONROE] A local story telling project you may want to participate in.
    2. ruth.rogers
    3. Hi everyone, I want to remind all listers that there is a book project under way that you may want to participate in. I have set up a free, private site at MyFamily.com for those willing to make contributions to this book. It is more than a history of our area. It is largely a storytelling book. We want to capture the personalities of our ancestors, not just the bare facts. Photos will be included, recipes, reproductions of old documents. Right now we especially need some stories of hauntings, mysterious happenings, and well-known churches and ministers. I am editing the book, but many people are contributing to it. This summer will be a time of intense work on the book, with a possible publication date in September. It is our goal to have some representative of every pioneer family to contribute to the book. I believe you will want to be a part of this project when you see what we are doing. So if you want an invitation to this private site, send me your name and email address by PRIVATE email, not to this list. I will send an invitation. Put MEMORIES in the subject line, please, as I have numerous sites at MyFamily.com and need to know which one you are requesting a membership for. Thanks, Ruth Rogers

    1. [KYMONROE] MONROE COUNTY HERITAGE FESTIVAL
    2. Those of you who live in and around Monroe County, Kentucky SAR and DAR, and Cindy T, Director of the Old Mulkey Meeting House State Historic Site, certainly know how to make your "out-of-towners" feel welcome! During the April 25-27 heritage days in Tompkinsville, our visit and participation as descendants of some of the "first families" who came to the Barren/Monroe County area was just great pleasure, and our memories of that weekend will be carried throughout our lifetimes. The descendants of BOONE & PENNINGTON & STEWART have exchanged precious memories as cousins who attended from 11 states. Hats off and cheers for you in Monroe County! Hope you make that an annual event. Nell Valrico, Florida AMERICAN'S CREED ~ "I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect Union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my Country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws; to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies." . . . William Tyler Page NOTE: William Tyler Page, Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, wrote “ The American's Creed” in 1917. It was accepted by the House on behalf of the American people on April 3, 1918.

    2. Colleen Lill
    3. Can anyone tell me if there are any archived obits for Flippin, Monroe Co from Feb 3, 1929? Would there be anything at the Tompkinsville Library? Is there a library in Flippin that might carry obits from this date? I would like to find an obit for Arena (Wheeler) Kirby d Feb 3, 1929, buried in Flippin Church of Christ cemetery. She was a younger sister to my ggrandfather, Richard Wheeler. I have a copy of her death record filed by her son and it indicates that the undertaker was J & J. At least, that's what it looks like to me ( the copy is faint). Thanks for any help/suggestions. Colleen Lill Canada

    3. Chapman Family researchers, Have had both James Chapman's father, John Chapman and grandfather Robert Chapman approved by the DAR as Revolutionary ancestors. John Chapman died ca. 1830/31 in Monroe Co., KY. I haven't been able to prove where in Monroe Co., Ky. Would anyone have an idea where? Cindy White

    2. Jerri, Nancy Pennington, born 1812 , d. 1887, married James E. D. Hammer. Guess they would have wed c. 1832. I have not followed that lineage through, but hopefully someone can tell us more, either from Pennington Research Association, or Monroe Co., KY lists. 1. [KYMONROE] HANNAH BOONE & RICHARD PENNINGTON
    2. I am searching for descendants and relations of Hannah Boone, sister of Daniel Boone, and her husband, Richard Penningotn, who settled at Mill Creek (then Barren County, now Monore County) in 1798. She died near there in 1828. Please contact me as we are planning a family reunion and other events in Tompkinsville, KY on Saturday, April 26, in connection with Heritage Days that weekend. Nell J. 3. That's a date Phil, In case you or anybody else needs to catch up with me, I'll be at the T-ville Inn this time. I am bringing my daughters, Emily and Rebekah, 6 & 4,with me this time. So I won't be staying with kinfolk as usual. (I don't think they can handle 2 Atilla-the Tots) I am kinda at a loss as to what to bring for the genealogy swap. I have so much stuff piled around here. I only nominated the Jobes, Emmerts and Bartleys...pretty much proven pioneer stock. My laptop is fried, otherwise all my docs are scanned into this PC...any ideas for swapping? I'll be carrying 5 cameras, 2 of which are digital, so there will be plenty to share. Lastly, I wish there were many others with us. I would like to have seen Jemima Gee Morse and Bill Ford there, but they have passed. I'd like to see Doug Moore. There are way too many others to list...but what a reunion that would be.
