    3. Does any one have any knowledge on the logging industry in the late 1800s and early 1900s in Monroe and Cumberland counties? I am told that my great grandfather And his sons floated logs down the river to Nashville to the mill. I have always been certain that my family had some connection to the river because every where they moved they were on the Cumberland river. What other occupations might have been working on the river in that area back then? My ancestor was Andrew Harris b: 1858 and married to Margaret E. Blythe b: 1869 their sons were Elmore m: Murt Scott from Adair Co., John, William, Tim, Bedford, they also had twin girls who were the youngest named Zora and Della. They moved up to Adair Co around 1915-1919 then on to Indiana some time around 1922. any info on these occupations or this family would be very much appreciated. 3. Researchers, Looking for anyone who may have a cemetery listing for: William Whitman Johnson, born 19 Nov 1830 in Butler County, Kentucky; died 20 Dec 1929 at Sunny Side, Warren County, Kentucky. Family stories suggest he was buried "in the Samuel Hays Burying Ground". I have walked the Hays cemetery with no luck. (That is the one in Barren County). I need someone to identify the location of his burial. He should be near his wife: Harriet S. Johnson. (28 May 1835 to Aft. 22 Jun 1873). One person identified this cemetery as being near Smith's Grove, Warren County, KY. Thanks, [email protected]

    3. Does anyone have info on the William Jackson b. 1781 in North Carolina and Mary b. 1792 in Virginia who are found in the 1850 Monroe County, Kentucky census? There is a Henry age 16 in the household as well. The clues for the Charity Jackson b. 1825 who married Thomas Fults are that her father was born in North Carolina and her mother was born in Virginia. Charity's first son was named William and her first daughter was named Mary. In Thomas Fults household in 1880, there is a Mary Haise, age 91 listed as his mother-in-law. I think this is Mary Jackson. Date of birth fits the Mary Jackson, wife of William in 1850. Anyone familiar with this William Jackson from North Carolina or have any other info on this line? Thanks.

    3. The original message is quoted below. Here is what I know. On 17 Sep 1882, in Clay Co, TN, John R Grinestaff married Nancy J Bryant. I think this is your Nancy. John Grinestaff was the son of Moses Grinestaff. This marriage obviously didn't last. On 10 Jul 1897 John Grinestaff married Harriet Kidwell in Clay Co. In 1900 John and Harriet were living (with their 2 young children) with Moses Grinestaff in Clay Co, TN. Now here is your Jobe marriage. On 27 Feb 1895 in Clay Co, TN, there is recorded the marriage between G W Jobe and N J Grinestaff (Bryant). I don't find Nancy Jobe listed in the Peden Cem in the Barren Co Cememtery book, although her son James is there. I don't anything about Nancy 1910. 1. [KYMONROE] new site for school days memories
    2. ruth.rogers
    3. Hello, The folks at some sites I belong to have been discussing the need for a site dedicated to teachers. No doubt, such a site will discuss much more than teachers, but will expand to become a celebration of school days in south central Kentucky. I volunteered to start such a site, and so I want you to know about it. I hope you will join us and, especially, post your old photos of school groups and teachers. Also, share your memories of your teachers. We'd like biographies of them and anecdotes. Our new site is called CELEBRATION OF SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY SCHOOL DAYS, and it is a free, private site at MyFamily.com. Photos, especially group photos, will be the heart of what we want to accomplish at our school days site. We want to find as many group photos as possible to post and compare against earlier and later photos from that same school--in hopes of identifying all the students in those pictures. Indeed, our ultimate goal is to create an encyclopedia of school photos from south central Kentucky. Wouldn't it be great to have these available at every museum and library around? So we need your help and your memories at this new site. If you want to join, send me an email with your first and last name, plus your email address in the message box. In the subject line, put TEACHER. Please do not post your request to this list, but send to [email protected] Thank you so much, Ruth Rogers

    1. [KYMONROE] Turners
    2. James Wm. Wallace
    3. Dear Sherry, Here are some pictures of my Turners and I believe they were taken in Simpson County, Kentucky. The first picture is of a woman and child with a Turner husband. The man to the right (Turners left) is my grandfather James A. Wallace. Not related to the horse to the right. The second picture is of the Turner family of men. Now I don't know who any of these people are by name. I am related to the Turners through my great grandfather William Alek (Alexander) Wallace. He married a Betty Ann (Betsy)(Puss) Turner perhaps around 1860. Betty Ann Turner was born in Tennessee (Same as husband William A. Wallace) in 1841. Her father was Jonas Turner and mother was Eliza Crants or Krantz. Betty Ann's siblings were: John W. James A. Price A. Mary L. Manda S. Leonidus Newt Turner William D. Michael M. I don't know if this is any help to you but Eliza was an extraordinary woman of her time. Born in Virginia in 1814, married and had her first two children in 1832 in Virginia, five in Tennessee 1839 to 1848, and three in Simpson County, Kentucky 1850 to 1855. That is a long way to walk over the years in Indian territory and died in Simpson County, Kentucky at the age of eighty years. They are interred in the Blackjack cemetery in Simpson County, Kentucky. Let me hear from you, James Wm. Wallace in Michigan [email protected]
