    1. Birges in Monroe County
    2. MARY BIRGE
    3. Hi, I am at a standstill in my research on the William *Bill" H. Birge family who lived in Monroe County. His wife was Jane Frazier Birge. Many of his decendents still live in that area. William is on the census for 1840 and then on 1850 Jane is head of household. The youngest child was born in 1847 so I need to find out what happened to William between then and 1850. Does anybody whose family has been in that area for a while know if he died or went away or what? I know records were burned for that county and hard to find anything but can find no trace of him or who his parents were. Also his wife Jane was still living in 1865 but she also disappears and willed her land to her son James. They both came from Tennessee it is said. Their children were: John W. Birge married Lydia Headrick and went to Missouri James M. Birge married Margaret Bacon and stayed in Kentucky Harvey Birge married Sarah Billingsley and went to Missouri Thomas Birge married Elcy Hamilton and went to Indiana Mary Ann Birge married Robert Hamilton Elizabeth Jane Birge married John W. Billingsley Rebecca Birge married Peter Kelley and later James Bartley I am the great grandaughter of Harvey and Sarah Billingsley. If anyone knows where Jane or William is buried I would appreciate the info or anything about them. Thank you, Mary Birge [email protected]

    3. Hi, I was really glad to see that you had found your Halls in Monroe Co. I would never have thought to look under Hale, but the 1860 Monroe Co. Census is really confusing so I'm not surprised. I do have some info about John A. Hall, the father of the your Arnold Hall and his second wife, Elizabeth Headrick Ryherd. Elizabeth Headrick, second wife of John A Hall, is the daughter of Jessie and Eda Headrick whom you will find in the 1850 Monroe Co. census. They came to Monroe Co, sometime in the 1840s from TN. Elizabeth, their oldest daughter probably married her first husband, Lewis Ryherd in TN before the Headrick family moved to Monroe Co, KY. 1850 Census - Jackson Co, TN 910 Sanford Riherd 30 M Anna 25 F Victora 1- F *Lewis Riherd 24 M farming *Elilis 19 F [Elisabeth Headrick, wife of Lewis.] [No marriage record found to confirm this] About the time the Headricks moved to KY this branch of the Ryherds moved to MO. Elizabeth's child, Mary Jane Ryherd was born in MO in 1852. It is believed that Louis Riherd died about this time and that on his death, Elizabeth's father, Jesse Headrick traveled to MO with a team of horses and a wagon to bring Elizabeth and her child back to Kentucky. She married widower, John A. Hall about 1855 in Monroe Co, KY. Their only child is Jenetta Hall, born abt 1870 Monroe CO, KY. She married Wyett Turner about 1890. Mary Jane Ryherd is listed in the 1860 and 1870 Monroe County census as living in the home of her stepfather, John A Hall with her mother, Elizabeth and the Hall children from John's first marriage. An interesting side note - John A Hall was a farmer, and a minister, of what church I don't know. He performed the marriage ceremony of my grandparents, Everett E. Belcher and Sarah Ann Gentry, who married at Emberton, Ky (now Freewill) on April 06, 1905. Everett's mother was Sarah Mandy Headrick Belcher, sister to Elizabeth Headrick Ryherd Hall. You may find other marriages performed by John A. Hall in Monroe County. Hope you find this helpful. 3. You can go into Google and put in "county formation of Kentucky" and it will bring up a site where you can choose the year to see what a state looked like. You can put in a different state in Google and see what happened there also. 1. More about Arnold, and Elizabeth Hall
    2. Marcus T. was Elizabeths brother, I don't know that much on Arnold, they were not the same line( not cousins ) That He was in the Civil War, and that the name of his father and Mother were, J. A. HALL Born VA, Mother Caroline DAVIS B. TN, their only daughter was Caroline Virginia, who married David Benjamin FORD. Arnbold was born March 28th 1843 and died March 6, 1921, that during the war on Sept. 9, 1862 one of his own men struck him over the eye with a fire brand , inflicting a serve, with effected his eye, and he had a hard time seeing small print, or small objects. My Aunt remembers him studing his Bible ( He was a preacher) and Elizabeth loving to play with her and her sisters and Brothers, and that Arnold would always have to sush her, so he could get his sermon prepared. Now I don't know how she could remember this, but we just saw her the end of July, and as I was telling her some things I'd found on her side of the family, that is what she told me. I guess since I never had a grandfather I wouldn't have anything to remember, My great Grandfather lived longer than my own grandfathers., but only 2 years of age at his death, so don't remember him, just saw pictures of him. Elizabeth's middle name was Howard, per the Civil War pension papers. -- Teddy List Mom for the Grayson Co Ky List, Vertrees, Ford, Fulkerson, and Commonwealth http://www.kygenweb.net/pd-res/deford.html -------------- Original message -------------- > Well, Harmon Hall's wife was named Elizabeth. 2. I do have the birth & death CD for 1911-1999, so can lookup anything you don't have on Births, and deaths, for KY marriages don't start until1973 , all counites are included, it is like the books that were at the KY Archives, but now the books were given to the KY Historical Society, and you can't look thru them, they just have a card catalog on them. Not all speelling and information is correct, becaue it was a WPA job after the War to help people get back on their feet. The CD's automatically bring up some different spellings, not all. -- Teddy List Mom for the Grayson Co Ky List, Vertrees, Ford, Fulkerson, and Commonwealth http://www.kygenweb.net/pd-res/deford.html

    1. AFFIDAVIT OF Marcus T. Hall For his sister Elizabeth Hall
    2. From the death certificates, I now know that Marcus was the brother of Elizabeth Hall her death certificate is in the Archives for Monroe Co List., and Elizabeth married Arnold N. Hall on March 9, 1865. I do have the Civil war papers of Arnold, it said he was a preacher, and had lost sight in his eye, and it was hard for him to read, and see anything small. When Elizabeth got his pension it said that M.T. Hall was her brother. on Elizabeths death certificate it said that Daniel Hall was her father, B KY and Mary Petey B KY, I now know it was Pedigo, and that some one else on the List had told me about the correct name, but I don't like to change the papers that say one thing wheather is it right or wrong I try to transcribe what it says GENERAL AFFIDAVIT State of KY County of Monroe: in the matter of 1172432 Elizabeth Hall widow of Arnold N/ HALL . 3. Thank you for this information. It is interesting that Elizabeth's husband was a preacher because Eliza Lou Genie Hunter Hall's brother, Simon Hunter, my grandfather, was an evangelist/preacher, too. Either he or his father, Allen Hunter, preached at least once (and maybe many times) in Monroe County, although they lived in Hart County, Kentucky. I hope to find descendants of M.T. and Eliza Lou Genie Hunter Hall. I know Roxie and Sherman lived in Monroe County and had a son named Earl Hale, and maybe others. I will have to look further to be able to tell you more.
