    1. Re: [KYMONROE] Blankenship, Putnam Co., Tn.

    3. Yes, that is what my copy of the 1880 census shows. I wondered if the letter after the name of Blankenship could have been Mr. As I look very close, there seems to be a period after the M. The one good lead was the William Blankenship b. 1801 who lived near the Cumby family. Richard and Nancy Cumby did have a child they named William and I have wondered if he was named after one of their fathers. The age of 75 doesn't quit match the 1801 birth time, but it is very close and they did make a lot of mistakes on those census. Thanks, Paula ----- Original Message ----- From: "M Carter" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, October 03, 2004 3:17 PM Subject: Re: [KYMONROE] Blankenship, Putnam Co., Tn. > > I'm sorry. 3. I'm sorry. I do not know where I got that census information. I went to the LDS 1880 census, and it does look like it says "father-in-law," Also, the 75 year old is shown as male. This must have been my mistake. 1. Looking for Parents Of Lemuel Jones 1780-1834
    2. Jones Historian
    3. Looking for Parents & Siblings of Lemuel Jones who was likely brother/cousin Stephen Jones in SE Kentucky, Monroe Co. / Cumberland Co. My Main Interest is: Lemuel Jones b. abt 1780 (KY?) d. abt 1834 in Monroe Co. Tompkinsville KY. He Married Sarah Kirkpatrick abt 1805 in KY. They had 15 children. He is my GGG Grandfather. Who were Lemuel Parents and where did they come from? I suspect Virginia or North Carolina. I believe parents may have been in/near a KY Fort or been early settlers with Daniel Boone. 1810 Cumberland Co. KY Census shows Stephen Jones enumerated right next to his brother (twin)/ cousin Lemuel Jones. Stephen/Steven Jones b. abt 1779 in KY (shows that from a 1850 IL census) d in 1856 in Schuyler Co IL married Elizabeth Black in KY. Please email me at [email protected] I will reward $100.00 to first person who can provide more information about the Father/Mother of Lemuel Jones and where they came from. 1. J. J. Blankenship
    2. Tobi Shields
    3. Hello, I am also searching for a Blankenship. While researching the Shields family of Monroe County, Kentucky I discovered that Zachariah Shields's wife Martha Tadlock had filed a Civil War pension application as his widow in 1883 (Zachariah had passed away in 1863) and she listed a J. J. Blankenship as a minor. I have been unable to link this individual to our Shields line. None of Zachariah and Martha's daughters married a Blankenship. A researcher of this line did alert me to the fact that Zachariah may have had an illegitimate child with a Susan Miles, who appeared on the 1860 census with the family as a 19 year old. She later married a Frank McLaughlin and appeared on the 1870 census of Bullitt City, Kentucky with him. If any of these names appear in anyone's research, please contact me. Thank you. Tobi Shields

    3. Thank you for the information. I too have the 1880, 1870 and 1860 census of my 2nd Great Grandparents in Putnam Co. TN. On my copy of the 1880 census, it looks like M. Blankenship was listed as the father-in-law and that is why I could never figure out why people thought Nancy's father was named Bennett since this census showed the name as M. Blankenship. Do you have a copy of the census that says, Mother-in-law? I also have Nancy Blankenship's death certificate and her son, William Cumby gave the information. He must have known who her parents were, but he said unknown. I have been in touch with one of my distant cousins who descended from William Cumby and he hasn't been able to confirm Nancy's parents either. My great grandfather, Hardy Dee Cumby, the youngest of the children, claimed we had Indian heritage and after checking with the Indian Nation in Oklahoma, they did confirm that some Blankenships were Choctaw. Maybe one day I will find more. 1. Blankenship, Putnam Co., Tn.
    2. M Carter
    3. I see from the 1880 Putnam County, Tennessee census that M. Blankenship, b. 1805 Vir. was the mother-in-law to Richard Cumby. All the Cumby children in the family at that time were born in Tennessee, starting with John, age 20. In 1870, the family was in Putnam County, the oldest was 17 year old Quilla/Quiller M (Male), also born in Tennessee. I found no Blankenships in 1870 Putnam County. There were a number of other Cumbys. In 1860 Richard was listed as Richard Cumbia. Seventeen year old James, and 15 year old William were born in Virginia; 14 year old Mary was born in Tennessee. Quilla, evidently, was actually named Aquilla. This gives their passage into Tennessee around 1845, so they should be found in Virginia 1840. I found one Blankenship family in 1860 Putnam County. William Blankenship was born about 1801 in Virginia; his wife, "S," around 1811. They lived in Winfield; Richard and family lived at Falling Water. In 1850, the "Cumbey" family was in White County, Tennessee. Interestinghly, there were Stones living nearby. I also found a several Stones by the family in 1870 Putnam Co. Of course, White is next to Putnam Co. Next door to the Cumbey's lived a Joshua R. Stone, having a John Blankenship living with him. John was 22, Joshua Stone 33, and they both were born in Virginia. Searching for Blankenships in 1850 White County, Tennessee who were born in Virginia, I found several, but could identify none who would fit Richard Cumby's mother-in-law. .................................................................................................................................. Certificate: #183 Deceased: William Cumby Birth: 1844 Birth Place: VA Death: 21 Oct 1915 Father: Dick Cumby Birth Place: VA Mother: Nancy Blankenship Birth Place: VA Cemetery: Salem Cemetery ........................................................................................................................................... John Blankenship may possibly be a lead to the parents of Nancy. In 1860, there was a Bennet Blankenship, born in Virginia about 1800, in White County. His wife, however, was Catherine. Unhappily, I could not find William Blankinship a second time. There was a Bennett Blankenship found in 1840 Halifax Virgina. He was 40-50 years of age. There were also a couple of Cumbys. I personally have no information on these people. >From: "Dickie Warren" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [KYMONROE] Surnames >Date: Thu, 30 Sep 2004 19:26:35 -0500 > >I have a Nancy Blankenship in Cookeville, Tennessee which is Putnam Co. 3. Dickie, There was a Blankenship family from Chesterfield County, Virginia, that had several members settle in Cumberland Co., KY, just north of present day Putnam Co., TN. You might look there for you're connection. I don't know if the Monroe County Blankenship family is related to those in Cumberland Co. but it's possible considering how unusual the name is. 3. I have a Nancy Blankenship in Cookeville, Tennessee which is Putnam Co. Do not know much more than the fact that she married Richard H. Cumby and had several children. She and Richard were both born in VA. The oldest was a William Cumby and the youngest was Hardy Dee Cumby. Rumor has it that her dad may have been Bennett Blankenship, but I can't find anything more. 2. The Birth Cd has a Sallie Murphy, also spelled Marphy The Children are Georgia R. B. 12/7/1919 Cert # 119-59017 a twin named John R. # 119 -59018 and Lucy K. was Born 8/20/1911 # 110-40293 Since the census says they are the same age, the Cora, and Georgia there are either the twins, or somweone else's child I find a C. M. THURMAN B 3/19/1916 in Calloway Co., and the Mother was HAMLIN, Gertrude Certificate # 45-22467 I don't know how much it cost, but the birth records should have the name of the Mother and the Father. MY Mom's birth certificate, which she still had when she died, told everything about the MOM and dad, andwhere they lived, exact address. I know MOM was not born until 1923, but I would hope that the information on the children in the earlier years do have the fathers name on them. I looked at the page, and it says $10.00 for a Certified licence, but also wants the fathers name, I'm sure they can get them with the date of birth and the Mothers name, you might want to call and ask. 1. Another Hall was Born 1866
    2. On the Civil War Record there is a Mary M. HALL born July 16, 1966 to Arnold and Elizabeth H. HALL, on the 1915 Pension papers, and by 1870 Caroline Virginia, is the only one listed on the census, so at least now I do know the other child that it said they had 2 children in the 1910 census, with only 1 still Living. And If I'd have looked better I would have seen Arnold was Born in Macon Co.
