Does anyone have access to either that source or another to locat the marriage records of Mary and/or Margaret Brown? Do those records give the parents names? If that fails, I can locate a death certificate to determine the mother's names. What years were Monroe Co Ky Vitals kept between 1852-1861, and are the 2 oldest children listed in the Birth and/or Death information? Was there vitals kept in the 1870's for Monroe Co? I was at Salt Lake city last week at the Family History Library. Their records for Monroe Co., KY do not include land records, at least for the earlier years. Are they available anywhere? I've been researching the William Gates family in Barren and Monroe counties and I can find them in census and tax records, but need land records to continue the search. Any suggestions? OOps im sorry i sent this to the wrong address first time. While visiting in Monroe Co. Ky this fall i was told a story by a family member i met there and hope some one may have some knowledge of the people involved. My Great grandfathers name was Andrew Jackson Harris b: Sept 7, 1858, his wife was Margaret Blythe b: May 1869, they had several children, Elmore who married Murt Scott from Adair Co. Belle who married a William Young from Monroe Co. John who married Cora Coulter and Lela Gray, William married Nanny Belle Hayes, Tim married a Laney, Thomas Bedford married Edith Whittaker, Zora married Raymond Locke, Della married Mike Cornelius. The story i got from my cousin in Monroe Co. is that Tim Harris married this Laney, probably some time before 1930 and they had two daughters. there was a sickness that came through that area and Tims wife and one of the daughters died. Tim wasnt able to take care of a small daughter and the daughter was sent to live with her grandfather, who was called Polk Laney. Polk lived in Center point township in the Turkey Neck bend area in the early 1900s I found him on census there. He had a son named Thomas Bedford, this is interesting because my grandfather was named the same thing but of course he was a Harris. My cousin also told me its possible that Polk moved to Florida and that he wasnt sure if the daughter was grown or not by this time. I would just like to clarify this story for my own genealogy. Does any one know any of these people or what ever happened to the daughter? if so please contact me. Thanks, Carla Harris -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. I am new to the list and would like to post my interests. I am researching a WHITE family which I believe lived in Monroe County, KY, between about 1828 (or before) and 1850. The obit of one of the children fixes the area as around Tompkinsville. By 1850, they had moved to Pulaski County, MO, and may have also lived in Hickory, Jackson, and/or Morgan County, MO. Nine of the children moved to Douglas County, KS, in 1854 or 1855. Here is the way the family appears in the 1850 MO census: White, Joseph b. ca 1800 in TN Salina b. ca 1810 in KY Samuel b. ca 1828 in KY James S. b. ca 1830 in KY Arina b. ca 1832 in KY Harrison b. 1833 in Tompkinsville, KY Sarah E. b. 1835 in KY Austin b. ca 1838 in KY Wilford b. ca 1841 in KY Mary J. b. ca 1845 in KY Eliza Ann F. b. 1847 in KY Joseph b. 1853 in MO Some thoughts: Salina may be a second wife; Arina may be the wife of one of the sons, by the 1880's, Eliza Ann was appearing as Allida Ann and/or Allida Taylor. If anyone has any information about any member of this family, I would love to hear from you. I am very willing to share information. Sharon

There were probably various reasons...the availability of land...the lure...the adventure, maybe even more "elbow room".You might already know this but in the older days when someone would visit someone else they'd spend the night with them because even as neighbors they lived long distances apart. That's why many times you'd see neighbors marrying each other, they didn't see many others. Also a lot of times other family members preceded them going from Tennessee to Kentucky. I don't know how many letters I've read that talk about how good the crops were here or there compared to "back home". That would encourage some in itself. In can visualize wagons traveling together for protection, stopping from time to time to rest and spend the night. I have one of my families that traveled that way (by wagon) from Virginia into Kentucky. They spent a night on the trail. A strong storm came up and blew a large tree over onto the wagon and one of our family members died, crushed by that huge tree. They experienced many hardships including the weather. -----Original Message----- From: deb <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, November 23, 2004 10:27 PM Subject: Re: [KYMONROE] Families from Washington Co, Tn >Do any of you have any idea why so many families moved from Washington Co., >Tn to Monroe Co.
