I'm looking for a marriage record of William Boyd Short, married to Caroline Wariner or Warren. Their only child, Charles McPherson Short. On Charles death certificate it mentions his parents names.. The closest that I can figure out that William probably got married in the late 60's but no later then 1872, because that's when Charles McPherson Short was born. I have not been able to place William Boyd Short on the 1870 census. So I want to think that he was married after 1870 but no later then 1872. Remember Charles was born in 1872. But he could of been married before 1870, and I just can't find him on the census. If you happen to have a marriage record book on hand could you please check the index. for William Boyd Short and Caroline Wariner or Warren. Charlotte
There is an Owen Biggers in the Button Cemetery in Monroe County located off Sand Lick Road. Don't know if this is the person you're looking for or not. In checking my Monroe Co Cemetery book the only Own Biggers that I find is in Button Cemetery but the dates are wrong (Feb 5, 1809 - Sept 15, 1863) and his wife is Elcy ( July 4, 1821 - June 5, 1895). I don't find a listing for a Biggers Cemetery. -- Susan [email protected]

Hi all, I am a retired college teacher, and I'm putting together a book called Kentucky Memories: Yesterday and Today. If you have family stories or local history stories you could share with me for possibly being included in this book, please contact me at [email protected] I'm especially interested in true ghost stories and stories of Indian ancestors or encounters. Stories from your own life would be welcome, too, especially school memories. Anyone whose stories are included in my book will receive a complimentary copy of the book when it is published, and you will retain copyright to your story. I'll appreciate hearing from you, Ruth Rogers Love is, above all, the gift of oneself. ~Jean Anouilh
Sandy, I think you are correct about the Mulkey Meetinghouse. Nell No Nell, as I noted, the marriage record doesn't exist any more; the first few years of marriages were lost many, many years ago. They were recorded and the only reference was in the index book of marriages at the courthouse and in the published records. I'm hoping someone on the Monroe Co list will have knowledge of your William Stewart ... I would imagine they were all members of "Old Mulkey" Church in Tompkinsville. Sandi The Past is History The Future a Mystery The Present is a Gift ! . . . . . . Sending hugs, Nell Truitt

Sandy, is there any way to get a copy of that record? WE are trying to find out who this William Stewart was. Hannah Boone Pennington, mother of Daniel Boone Pennington, was first married to John Stewart, in North Carolina, before settling in Barren/Monroe County. The search is: What relationship was William Stewart to Hannah and also Daniel Boone Pennington. THANKS A MILLION!! Nell Since there was no Monroe Co in 1805, they were married in Barren Co, one of the parent counties of Monroe (formed 1820). Their marriage license is no longer available but has been recorded: Daniel Pennington to Esther Frailey, bond 14 Aug 1805, sureties by William Stewert, consent of her father, Christopher Frailey. Md 20 Aug 1805 by John Mulkey. Hope this helps, Sandi The Past is History The Future a Mystery The Present is a Gift ! . . . . . . Sending hugs, Nell Truitt
Can anyone in Tompkinsville area copy a marriage record at the Court House for me? It will be for: Daniel B. Pennington and Ester Frailey 20 August 1805 and William Steward was the bondsman If you can send a copy to me by email attachment, that would be great......Genealogists are the greatest!! Is anyone on the list doing research on Grace McMillen or John McMillen listed on the 1820 Monroe County census. We have just learned that our 4 great grandmother Bailey was named Grace McMillen. She married a William Bailey b. 1794 in probably Edgefield Co. S.C. or right after 1814 in Monroe Co. Kentucky. They were neighbors in Monroe County. Any information on these McMillens will be helpful. Thanks in Advance. Jeanette Bailey-Lopez [email protected] Families are like fudge......Mostly sweet but with a few nuts.
These records are written on pages that are old and brittle with a few holes through the middle. Printed at the top of the pages are "Scripture Memoranda" and have old glue stains on the left side so I assume they came from a Bible. Both Isham and Sarah, the grandparents were born in Monroe Co., KY as well as the parents, Milton and Permelia. Most of the older children were born in Missouri and the younger ones at Meshack, Monroe County, KY. I believe all the children's marriages took place in Monroe County, KY. I'm new to the list. I am trying to find descendants or someone who might know about the following people. Jane Angus, daughter of William Angus?, was born cir 1799 in VA. She married William Anderson England in 1799 in Amherst Co., Virginia. They migrated to Monroe Co., Kentucky at some point or at least by 1820. I haven't checked all the census records yet, but I do find Jane Angus England in the 1850 Monroe Co., KY census age 71 and then again in 1860 age 81. I assume she died shortly after this, but I have not checked the 1870 census yet. Jane Angus had at least 4 other siblings: James Angus migrated to Giles Co., TN. Elizabeth Angus Kidwell migrated to Giles Co., TN. Alexander Angus (in Giles Co. at some point, but believe migrated to west Tennessee -Tipton Co.?) Mary Angus Wilsford -Giles Co, TN. possibly another -William Angus. I am most especially in learning about Elizabeth Angus Kidwell whose husband was James (William ?) Kidwell born cir 1777-78 in VA. Records state they were married in Giles Co., TN. either 1809 or 1811. They had 5 children: Mary, Sarah, Alexander, James , and William. In some census records these children state they were born in Kentucky. So if James and Elizabeth Angus Kidwell were married in Giles Co., TN, then they would have gone to Kentucky a t some point if you believe the census records. I was thinking since Elizabeth Angus Kidwell's sister, Jane Angus England was in Monroe Co., Ky, maybe the Kidwell's were there at some point. I'm thinking James Angus brother to Jane may have also been in Kentucky either before or after he came to Giles Co., TN. I want to think they just went back and forth between somewhere in Kentucky and Giles Co., TN. before they finally settled down in Giles Co. in the 1820's. I'm just searching for further information about my Angus/Kidwell's and hoping that I could find that through some descendant of Jane Angus England. Would love to correspond with anyone who might know about this Angus/England line. Any help appreciated. I have checked message boards and have seen some messages about this family. Judy Sanders
Fleming Smith md Prudence Bland in Pr. Wm. Co., VA, and they made their way eventually to Monroe Co. KY, where their daughter Dorcas md John Page, a son of Robert Page Sr. and Rachel Brockman. The History of Spartanburg Co., South Carolina, by J.B.O. Landrum, 1900, starting pg. 208 has information on the sons James, Fleming, Thomas, John, and Charles Smith, from Bull Run, Virginia. It says their father was from Wales, and his spouse from France. Thomas Jr. never married, and the book contains biographical information on the families of the other brothers but not Fleming. The book "PETER SMITH of Westmoreland County, Virginia (Died 1741) and Some Descendants," by Wilmer L. Smith and Richard B. Abell, includes details down to Fleming Smith, and beyond. Wilmer sent me a copy (sans index) several years ago. They then had the plan of updating and reprinting but I don't think they ever did. For some reason, over the years. I collected info about Fleming Smith's ancestors and the ancestors of his wife Prudence Bland. These were collateral lines for me so the research was not exhaustive. Anyway, the info includes many ancestors of descendants of John Page 1777-1819 who d Cumberland Co. KY. I just made a gedcom file (about 134kB) of Dorcas' ancestors. It goes back about 4 generations earlier than Dorcas (Smith) Page on most branches, including mention of Peter Smith who came to VA 1635 on The Transport from England, and James Bland 1655-1725 who died Old Stafford Co. VA (now Pr. Wm. Co.).
Hello Sherry: My name is Glen Creek. I have a few members of the Fox family from Monroe county that married into my line. Not any in my direct line. However I do have know of some of them. Do you have a name and any date of one of your Fox family. Are you related to Daniel Fox who was in the civil war with the KY 9th inf? My family lines are: Creek, Crowe, Burnnet, Proffitt, Isenberg. Futher down are England, Copas, Job, Emberton, Fults, Pennington, etc. Good luck in your research. I have found a lot of cousin with Monroe county connections that have done research. Look for Linda Fox Hughes. She lives in TX and is also related to Daniel Fox. I want to thank all of you who responded to my question about the location of Anderson Page's burial. My history says that he "died in 1828 in Cumberland Co., Kentucky & was buried in the Page cemetery in Monroe County, Kentucky". I will have to assume that since he died in 1828, his tombstone, if he had one, is now no longer there. Don L. Fox [email protected]
