The Monroe Co vital stats for 1852-1860 recorded the marriage of Leroy and Marinda: Leroy Curtis age 23 born Jackson Co, TN Marinda Grinestaff age 17 born Monroe Co, KY married in Monroe Co on 4 Nov 1852. Both children in the 1860 census belong to Leroy and Marinda. Their births are recorded in Monroe Co vital stats with Leroy and Marinda listed as parents: Henderson Curtis 21 Aug 1853 Monroe Co Catherine Curtis 4 Sep 1855 Monroe Co It was Henderson Curtis who drew my attention to this family, since he married into my Moore line. I have always thought that the Leroy Curtis who lived with Gerusha in the 1850 Jackson Co, TN, census is the same as the one who married Marinda. But I have no proof. Take care. 3. Hi, Can anyone please tell me if Ancestry.com digitized the Schedule 7 of the 1880 census? This is the schedule that has information about residents/inmates of a poorhouse in a given county. I know that Monroe Co had a poorhouse as there were a few people recorded in the Turner Pct, ed #199, pg 271C. I've read an article that indicated that a separate schedule was frequently done, in addition to recording people on the "regular" schedule 1. Thanks, Colleen Lill

    2. Colleen Lill
    3. Hi, I have just come across a marriage record in Monroe Co: Louis Wheeler m Sarah M Silvey Jan 15 1865 Pretty much all of my Wheelers came out of Monroe Co Ky and this Louis Wheeler is likely one of 2 men: either Lewis Wheeler b abt 1792 in TN and was married to Rhody Gentry (she died abt 1849/50); OR Lewis Wheeler b abt 1840 in Monroe Co. This second Lewis Wheeler is the grandson of the first one (his father being James Wheeler). The elder Lewis Wheeler died abt 1869 in MC. Does anyone have information about Sarah Silvey? Is there anyone on the list familiar with the surname Silvey from MC? The source of this marriage record was : Dodd, Jordan, comp. Kentucky Marriages, 1851-1900 (database online @ Ancestry.com). 3. Ruth, I think I said or meant to say that it was possible they came earlier. Grandma Huldah was born 1859 and the border business came up in 1858. I think Judy's records show Huldah born in Hart County, so their sojourn in Monroe County and the final move to Hart County would have had to have been before 1858. There is a sprinkling of Hunters in Breckenridge County, and in East Kentucky that go back much farther than 1858, and though I don't have the connection, I am sure some of them are in our line....just don't know which ones. 3. I am not a skilled genealogist but, nonetheless, I am trying to learn more of my Hunter family, who came to Hart County, from Monroe County. My maternal grandmother was Huldah Hunter (Barrons,Barns, Barnes). She was born 1859 and died 1941 in Hart County. I do not know where in Monroe County they lived. I do not know if they came to Monroe County before the survey placed Monroe in Kentucky, not TN. I know this isn't much to go on, but any information or suggestions on how to research this, would be very helpful and very much appreciated. Gordon Crump Columbia,KY
