Surnames: NEWTON CAWEYA Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/gBB.2ACI/3247.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: HI That's a good question I found out about it on this sight. his record from the revolution war states he left Virginia with a 300 Virginia militia under the leadership of George Rogers Clark. thay were stationed on corn island at the falls of the Ohio (now Louisville Kentucky ) to guard against the Indian town of Kaskaskia and keep the British and Indian forces from crossing at the falls. he is credited with making a peace deal with the Kaskaskia. its believed by some that this is where he married in to the tribe but after that he was stationed at ft.harrod he was given 108 acres of land in Clark and Floyd county in Indiana for helping take back ft.vincennes but thay gave all 300 the land wether thay went to vincennes or not (Clark wasn't even there when thay took it back ) so thay said since all the men had an equal hand in taking it back thay wouldn't say who was there and who wasn't but I think he wasn't I believe he went to ft.harrod but who knows.but he stayed in on h! is farm in mercer county KY till he moved with his son in bull it county KY. where he died. He is supposed to have a large monument on his grave but I cant find where he is buried I have been there and looked in as meany grave yards as I can but no luck that's my major project I did see a picture of it but the man who had it was gathering information for the show little house on the prairie and wouldn't say where it was located. Then thay made a move called the newton boys and that was it I couldn't get the information any more. If we could find the grave marker we might get some information on her hope it helps some I know its not much. Take care George
