Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gBB.2ACI/787.662.2.2.1.1.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Shirley, There is an old, old cemetary known as McMullen cemetary on East Bank Rd., off Ky 152 at the Mercer/Washington Co. line. Down the hill on the left is a grove of trees and bushes. This is the overgrown McMullen cemetary. Katherine Mayes Graham told me two years ago that John Granderson Mayes is buried there. I could not see any Mayes tombstones in my brief search there (difficult), but she just sent me copies of old pictures of tombstones taken many years ago, including one of my g-grandfather, Overton Harrison Mayes. The old "John G." homeplace is on down East Bank Rd. The road levels out, with a creek on the left. The property on the right--on a big hill--is the old "John G." homeplace. Overton Harrison farmed it, but I don't know about any of his offspring (he had 2 wives, 7 children by the first, Matilda, and 3 by the second, Mary Ann Rose, my g-grandmother). At some point, it was sold out of the Mayes family. If you look at the will of John Mayes on the Mecklenburg Co., VA web site, it lists all of the children. John G. is one of them. He had about 12, I think. One of his sons, John G. Jr., is in my line. in
