Born June 26, 1915 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William Hartford and Sue Hurst Lane. He was a retired farmer, a Mercer County magistrate for 29 years and a member of the Ebenezer Church of Christ. He was an Army veteran of World War II where he earned three bronze stars, American Defense Service Medal, and a Purple Heart for service in France. Survivors include: his wife, Wanda Shirley Lane, Harrodsburg; four sons, William Larry Lane, Bentley S. Lane and John David Lane, all of Mercer County, and James Carter Lane, Cleveland, TN; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas E. Lane, Jr., a daughter Laura Sue Lane, and a brother, William Arthur Lane. Funeral Services were held Friday, July 27, at the Ebenezer Church of Christ with John Kesel and Richard Easterling officiating. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bentley D. Lane, Clayton Lane, Jonathan Lane, Ryan Lane, Robert Wallace, Joe Warner, Joseph Lane and Timothy Lane. Honorary bearers were members of Ebenezer and Hopewell Sunday School class. Memorials are suggested to the Gideon Bible Fund, Ebenezer Church of Christ or the Hopewell Baptist Church. (HH Thu Aug 02, 2001)
